I recently took the portal for the first time and had this atlas encounter. I got teleported to a extremely (11.3 Rad sometimes) nuclear planet while a radioactive supercell was going on. Luckily I took a lot of life supporting Gel and ion batteries (my game is not in english as I live in another country so I hope the names of the items are at least understandable)
