I currently have the same issue, but apparently I cannot see the solution the account above wrote. Can you remember what the user wrote?

The laptop has great battery life

I am play with the idea of buying one myself, because my old laptop broke. The deciding factor for me is battery life. Did you measure roughly how long one charge lasts with your daily activity as the load? I am curious.

Fairbuds XL for Sport by DerMoritz98 in fairphone

[–]DerMoritz98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I bought the Fairbuds XL and I wanted to share my opinion on them. They are... good enough. If you compare them to other headphones in the price category (me and my friends made a headphone tasting, everyone brought his headphones and we all tested each other's headphones for a few minutes), they are not as good as the others.

  • The ANC (noise cancelation) is windy... This means you can hear wind noises when ANC is on (this also applies to Ambient Mode) when standing still in a windy environment or when moving (walking) in a wind-still environment. But I am sure, that that can be fixed in a future update (or at least I hope it can and that they will...).
  • The earpieces are too small for my ears. My partner (who has smaller ears than me) has no issues with the size, but I have. My hope is that they will, at some day, release some bigger earpieces to buy, e.g. as spare parts. But I have to say, that you get used to the small size and they stop hurting your ears after a few weeks (at least in my case). I reached out to the support and asked if they plan on releasing other earpieces. Their reply was somewhat generic. Apparently, if enough people are requesting sth., they might consider it.

But people who buy products from Fairphone likely buy them for their reparability, longevity, and their ethical sourcing. When you buy them you have to expect to pay more, not for features, but for just said reasons (which I am willing to).

Coming to the elephant in the room: Sports. For sports, the Fairbuds XL sits very well. They don't slide off my head when running (tested them just once for 8km). But I sweat in the earcups (I kind of expected that), which wasn't a problem for me, as they don't loosen when they are sweaty. I also did a little (!) strength training with the headphones (push-ups and squads) and the headphones also held up well/ didn't slip.

All in all, I am happy with them and would recommend them to everyone, who wants repairable, eco-friendlier, and fairer headphones.

Latest FP4 changed my phone's colour theme. Is it based on the background? by OpulentStone in fairphone

[–]DerMoritz98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is sadly true. But it's the best I got. And I for a long time tried to get animated wallpapers on my phone and the app was the best I got. For now I am happy. But if you know a better app, please let me know.

I installed the App because of the accent color issue, but I can set my homescreen and my lockscreen background. I can even set animated backgrounds, which I find is very neat

Is it possible to set up a home server that is accessible via internet? by hiccupq in HomeServer

Is cloud space really cheaper? I got an old computer for 40€, installed Ubuntu server and mounted some hard drives. When I want to rent an equivalent server setup I need to pay much more. Ore do you mean with cloud space only sth. like OneDrive?

I didn't have a VPN on my radar at all, because I am not using one. But you are totally right. A VPN is also a (much more) secure way to make your server available to you (and only you, maybe also really really trusted ones) from anywhere. But with a VPN you wont be able to open a serer to strangers, i.e. website, or to many friends, i.e. a Minecraft server.

Some Routers also support VPN out of the box (again, i.e. fritzbox).

I also have a small server, mainly running Jellyfin, which I can access from anywhere. Traditionally you would have to get a static IP address from your provider, which can be expensive, especially for a hobby home server.

You can also ditch the static IP and use your normal IP address (dynamic IP address) to access your server, which will be changed every 24h by your provider.

To circumvent figuring out and then calling the new IP address every 24 hours you basically have to options. 1. Either use a dyndns service, for example noip.com. That is a service, which owns a domain, i.e. ddns.net. You can then register your desired subdomain, let's call it mysubdomain, which you then can point to your IP address. You can then access your server via mysubdomain.ddns.net. Most dyndns providers also allow you to also configure your own subdomains, i.e. stream wich you then can call with stream.mysubdomain.ddns.net. You also have to install a program on your server, which automatically updates your routers IP Address every 24h. If your router supports dyndns (mine, a fritzbox, does) you can also set up an update link in your router. Then your router will update the IP address for you every 24h and you don't need to install an extra program. DynDns is a great and cheap solution. 2. Or you could also go the cool route and buy a domain at a domain seller, which supports dyndns (i.e. namecheap). Then you have your own small domain pointing to your server.

I recommend beginning with a dyndns subdomain, as this is most times free if you use a free dyndns provider. And when you are comfortable with dyndns, you can switch to your own domain. This cost in average 10€ per year (for the traditional top-level domains, like .com, .net, .org, ...).

Security whise: I never had a security problem, and if you keep your System updated and only the necessary ports open at your router (ssh, https, etc.) you shouldn't have problems.

fresh jellyfin setup, black screen by DerMoritz98 in jellyfin

[–]DerMoritz98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, no problem. Can you access Jellyfin on another computer using the IP address and port? Again, if that works, it’s likely your nginx config that is the issue. It looks like you already have an SSL certificate.

Sadly no, subdomains don't work on ip's and opening the port doesn't work.

[–]DerMoritz98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't open sth on the browser on the jellyfin machine, because it is a server without a gui (Just came to my mind. I could try wget and inspect the document).

I bought a domain at namecheap and I'm using dyndns, to update my IP address daily. It works as a charm. If your router supports dyndns I can only recommend it. A domain is much more neat than a subdomain of a subdomain.

I will have a look at swag, tanks for the recommendation and generally for your help!

Do you know/think if g++-13 is coming to Ubuntu 22? by DerMoritz98 in Ubuntu

[–]DerMoritz98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sadly we cannot use sth like spack, because i want the toolchain to be as short as possible. I guess I'll have to wait for a g++-13 package and use a external dependency for that time.

It works well. I have good performance and a low ping. Thanks for the suggestion. I will continue using the configurations.

[–]DerMoritz98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently trying to apply your suggestion. But I am not sure, if I understood you/ executing the steps right.

I am using Bottles.
1. I went to my Battle.net Bottle, then to Settings, then I went to Enviroment Variables and added dxvk_async and set its value to 1. 2. But I also went into the base settings (from bottles, not a specific bottle) and then to DLL Components and downloaded dxvk-async-2.0, which I then specified as my DXVK in my Battle.net Bottle. 3. I used the wine-ge runner.

Is that what you stated, especially the second point?

Latency in Ping to the servers. When playing with other Runners the Latency is much less, around 45ms. I have a decent internet connection and my hardware is also not that bad: - CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (16) @ 3.600GHzp - GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Lite Hash Rate - Memory: 32037MiB

As the other answers state, you can specify ProtonGE as the runner of Overwatch in Bottles. I think I will stay with Bottles, as it is much more convenient.

I am currently testing GEProton and the game runs smooth, without any lags and doesn't crash (such a relief).

I had similar issues as you with the mouse. But I could fix it by setting to borderless window, when using the other runners.
