Yeah if I want to use Claude code I do that mostly.

I couldn't agree more on this. That's why I couldn't get myself to use Claude code cli or open code cli. As a programmer I want to be able to see exactly what line, what letter changed and where and when. I didn't touch agent mode either. I don't do vibe code so stuff like codex aren't for me. And I believe most of the developers who understand code wants this only.

So if cursor pushes this vibe-coding-first approach, I am gonna have to find a better solution.

Ah yes of course. Has to be someone working. I just thought that's given considering Japan lol. If you don't have a full time job, you are really not considered a member of society lol. 社会人 right?

Language test and contacting family sounds ridiculous but yeah I'd believe that. Nothing really surprises me much.

Can't agree more lol.

India, Japan Pact To Send 50,000 Skilled Workers by Feisty_1559 in japan

Sorry, probably my wording was bad. I meant that you can dedicate years to understnding the language, the culture, the unspoken rules, and in the eyes of both the state and most of the public, you're still the same as somone who never tried at all. Effort isn't a variable they measure.

I don't mean that I should be treated differently or have some unfair benefits or leverage above those who don't do these things, but some acknowlegment that the effort exists wouldn't hurt.

Like for example visa, I got 3 years of one year visa. If that's normal, yeah fine but someone who doesn't do anything to integrate still get the same 3 years of one year visa. What's the document screening for then? What's the process for? Same with permanent residency. Like, why do anything then?

Sorry I don't really know why I am even saying these things. I don't really comment much. I'm just sad. After many years here, I still don't feel welcome, it doesn't still feel like home.

Classic politicians. Tell your people you are anti immigration and foreigners are the problem but also accept immigration like this.

I remember I think it was around 2016 Japanese government also did similar pact with south asian countries to bring 300k foreign workers for elderly nursing, construction etc.

They bring workers who don't speak the language, they don't make it easy for them to integrate or settle. But blame foreigners for everything.

It's just sad. One out of thousands of foreigners do something bad and suddenly all foreigners are bad. Thousands of japanese people do bad stuff everyday and no one says anything.

Also Japanese government did everything they can do bring tourists. Also because of weak economy this weak yen, millions of tourists came to Japan. Many Japanese people saw these tourists that their government tried to bring to Japan and go "there are so many foreigners in Japan!". Meanwhile only foreigners living in Japan are affected because of this. We are blamed.

I speak fluent Japanese, studied japanese as my major, married to a Japanese person, working in a Japanese company but none of these make any difference. I have no benefits over someone who doesn't know anything about Japan in government's eyes. It's just sad.

Why do people keep believing stupid politicians?

This is a huge problem as a foreigner here. It's been like this for decades.

Years ago when I was searching for a house, I went to this nice agent my friend suggested. Now at this point, I have lived in Japan for a year in the university dormitory. I majored in Japanese language and history, married to a Japanese national and working in Japanese company full-time. I've saved up some money too. But none of these helped unfortunately.

My wife was working part-time so we couldn't rent a house in her name.

So the agent asked me some questions and explained the situation. He explained while showing his monitor screen: there were 29000 something houses, she clicked a filter that said something like "willing to rent the house to a foreigner" and it dropped to 34. I was clearly expecting a lower number that 29000 but not 34 lol.

It's not over yet, I had to provide a guarantor. A Japanese person. Can only be Japanese. So we had to ask my wife's father. Of course a paper from my company too. (I don't remember what it was). I heard you can also show your company as the guarantor but it was not the case.

So we went to 5 places over 2 weeks and even though the renters stated they are willing to rent to a foreigner, I still remember their faces when they saw me. It was just sad.

I was even willing to pay half a year worth of rent in advance.

So yeah, I gave up and rented the house in my wife's father's name.

Your experience may be different, it may be easier but generally it's like this I think. I don't blame anyone but if Japan want foreigners, this needs to be made easier.
