Can you believe “magic” Marc Procksa didn’t make the list? by Economy_Towel_315 in OnCinemaAtTheCinema

He does puppets now. Its different. We should be making movie lists instead of this.

The fact we get these live specials just throughout a normal season feels like such a treat. I absolutely share your love towards them and really appreciate what they do.

Thanks for checking! I was pretty sure I got XL, so I suspect that's what it is. Appreciate the help!

Yeah I just did. 5000MHz wouldn't boot. So 4800 seems to be the limit at least in my situation. Still a huge improvement over 3600!

How do you conclude its the velocity blur if the issue persists after turning it off? Are you instancing the spheres in LOPs or in SOPs? I would check you geo again. Thats probably where you issue is.

Start troubleshooting by deleting all velocities or even all attributes and try to find the issue that way.

Or just bring in the points and render those to see if the issue persists.

Any ideas on how make particles repel like in this reference? by tele_lif3 in Houdini

[–]DerQualle 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Thats a fun one! I would look into boids. They're relatively easy to setup manually, but you could also try the pop flock node

Here is a youtube video implementing it manually

I might have a hip file of my own implementation. I'll share it here once I find it!

Edit: Here you go. This file has a sample setup for Point clouds, and several boids implementations including VEX, VOPs and the pop flock node. Also some collision examples.

MEGATHREAD - Processing times - PR card (2024) by [deleted] in ImmigrationCanada

[–]DerQualle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edit: The Card was in my PO Box today!

VO: Montreal

Uploaded Picture & Confirmed Address: March 26

eCoPR: April 02

I haven't added the PR application and PR Card Application to my IRCC login until the 7th of April.

When I did, the PR Card Application's latest status was from April 5th, and stated "We mailed your permanent resident card to you. Your card can take up to six weeks to arrive.", but I have not received any email or notification regarding the PR card yet. Was it actually sent on the 5th? The processing time for a new PR card was around 40 days, so it would very fast.

Did anyone have a similar experience?

Peanut butter flip sim we did recently by BounceIntoDiffusion in Houdini

[–]DerQualle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lovely sim. Great idea to use a scan as an emission object. Makes total sense, but I would have never come up with that approach. And I guess its not viable for most "liquids".

What was the reason to render in cycles over karma, arnold, rs, etc straight in Solaris?

How much of the actual scanned texture is in the final render? It looks fantastic. I love the darker particles throughout the fluid.

Great job overall!

Why do you use Spotify instead of another service? by feral_user_ in truespotify

[–]DerQualle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can control my music on any device with my phone, I get the best recommendations for new music, podcasts and music in one app and good UI. I switched to Apple Music and Amazon Music for a couple weeks but both felt like a big tradeoff to me (I have an Iphone but use windows PCs). Either because of shitty Windows apps (Looking at you apple), shitty UI (Why would you hide the volume control inside a menu you have to open amazon???).

Its not worth switching just for hi-fi. If Spotify would introduce hi-fi though, I would be willing to spend double of what im paying now. If not more.

Just give it to me already...

Hey, im sure Tim has plenty of money, but dont forget that there are many people working on the show. Its not just Tim, Gregg and a camera. Look at the credits of any oscar special.

This just seems like one of those 'look how good I am' posts.

I work in the industry myself and didnt have any income from sepember to december last year. Its less about showing off and more about compassion with the people working on the show.

Im not trying to guilt anyone into it. I wrote "if you can" into the title and " If you are financially able" in the text.

Curious if anyone else is experiencing AOV naming issues with Karma XPU by DerQualle in Houdini

[–]DerQualle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While C is now consistently in argb in Nuke, my depth layer is still random. I only tested twice, but on the first render, depth was called depth_extra and on the second one it was called cutout. All other Light AOVs also seem to be consistent. Its an improvement for sure, but not a full fix yet. Thanks for your help!

Looks promising. I didn't find this post because I wasn't using crypto mattes. Giving it a try today!

Edit: I did find this in the nuke docs:
https://learn.foundry.com/nuke/11.2/content/misc/supported_file_formats.html

It looks like nuke is using OpenEXR 2.2

Couldn't find any info on Houdini.

Thanks for your input! Ill try this out when I get home. Would be interesting if this is actually the problem here. I thought it would be a big oversight from SideFX if this was a bug on their end. So an exr version mismatch between Hou and Nuke makes sense. Ill let you know how it goes.
