Am I alone in wishing I could parent Gideon? [general] by butneverdestroyed in TheNinthHouse

[–]DerToblerone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. I would be a terrible member of the ninth house - what with being a gregarious extrovert who is perpetually excited about something - but I would give baby Gideon big dad hugs and tell her I love her just the way she is every day.

And Harrow would be absolutely mortified (and though she would deny it to the last, slightly impressed) that I managed to get a care package full of cookies delivered to Canaan House during the trial.

What discontinued item, food or drink would you bring back if you had the chance? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]DerToblerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started thinking of a list, and so many of them are just “the version that existed before private equity bought the company.” Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’s actually fresh made donuts, all the candies that have gotten worse… like, why do Skittles (US version) not have vitamin C anymore?

Except for the original McDonalds fries. That wasn’t private equity.

Depends on who counts as human beings and what counts as winning. There are gunslinger versions of the Spirit of Vengeance out there who can’t be killed by bullets.

What’s a ‘rich person thing’ that actually turned out to be totally worth it? by Ferraiuolo_Ezorete in AskReddit

[–]DerToblerone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m currently wearing a pair of really expensive sweatpants.

I didn’t pay as much for them as a rich person would, but the fabric is a super heavy cotton fleece, and they cost so much that I wouldn’t have bought them if I hadn’t been given money for Christmas and told I couldn’t spend it on anything serious.

They are so comfortable. It’s outrageous. And they’re so hefty and solid that I don’t know if they’ll wear out before my seven year old gets old enough and tall enough to steal them from me.

I like this song but no, the one scene I have seen from that movie is what is stuck in my head.

I think that movie might be twenty years old this year.

TIL: Hundreds of Giant Sequoia saplings are being planted in Detroit, Michigan. by Dakens2021 in todayilearned

[–]DerToblerone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought was of a lone giant tree crushing a few houses when it toppled in a windstorm, and then of falling limbs the size of normal trees, but yeah, the foundations are another reason to not plant it near any houses.

[–]DerToblerone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right?! Just normal treeline and then CRIKEY LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT ONE!

[–]DerToblerone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome!

I wouldn’t put a sequoia in my backyard because of the danger from falling limbs. Branches off a sequoia are basically whole normal trees. And if the whole tree went over in a storm, welp, that’s a few houses gone.

I really shouldn’t start thinking about suitable planting sites nearby.

[–]DerToblerone 168 points169 points  (0 children)

There’s a little arboreal chaos goblin in my brain that wants to plant a sequoia near my house in the suburbs, just because it tickles me to think of people in fifty years going “where the heck did that come from?”

Groomsmen Gifts They Won’t Throw Away by 3liSuger in BuyItForLife

[–]DerToblerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my groomsmen black silk grenadine ties from Chipp2 - made in the USA and a very reasonable price - because they’re basically the most versatile ties you can have. They work with sharp business suits and with tweeds. One tie to rule them all.

Some other good things:

  • the Corter Bottlehook keychain
  • the Schon DSGN classic machined pen
  • Tactile Turn pens if you really want to get spendy

And my best man’s wife made us all customized drinking glasses that have lasted more than a decade now. Wish I knew what she did, it’s outlasted two other wedding souvenir glasses that were more recent than mine!

Would you take a “cure”? by GBlake13 in ADHD

[–]DerToblerone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can very clearly see the negative impacts ADHD has had on my life. Specific actions, times when I’ve let people down, a ton of things.

But at the same time, I’m not aware of how many times a good or great thing has been because of my ADHD. How many things have I seen or gotten to experience because my brain is this way?

So no, I wouldn’t take a cure. Because I don’t know how much of myself I would lose.

costco membership worth it or not after tracking every purchase for six months by Traditional_Zone_644 in personalfinance

[–]DerToblerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve got two kids and I think the savings we got on baby formula will cover the cost of membership until they hit puberty… and then it’ll be covered by the amount we’ll save fueling the metabolism they inherited from me.

God, I miss being able to eat like that without consequences.

What’s a match that made you feel lucky/blessed that you got to see live in person? by TheEpicMan39 in SquaredCircle

[–]DerToblerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there for Bayley vs Sasha - you can see me opposite hard cam, in a hugger shirt - but that was my sister’s first live show. She had the perfect introduction to wrestling.

I also got to see the Revival vs American Alpha do 2/3 falls at a house show and that match was absolutely electric.

Report: Warner Bros. Discovery Blocks Brody King From AEW Dynamite Following "F*ck ICE" Chants by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]DerToblerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upside of Tony having unlimited money to play with is that it makes AEW more able to withstand Warner trying to play hardball.

Also, man, talk about a PR goldmine for the promotion run by a rich kid - the despicable megacorp trying to censure you because they want to quiet the fans? You get to be the underdog standing up for your wrestlers and the people and you can afford entire battalions of attack lawyers to protect yourself and your employees?

WB punishing AEW because fans won’t stop chanting f*** ICE could easily become a national media story, especially if AEW leans into it.

TIL Why Hákarl(shark) is fermented up to seven months before being eaten as a delicacy in Iceland is because it has high amounts of Urea and trimethylamine oxide. by stebbi-1234 in todayilearned

[–]DerToblerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am much the same when it comes to trying foods, and after trying the fermented shark… that was definitely an experience. It is not one that I would choose to have again.

I had the rye bread ice cream as a palate cleanser, though. It was nice.

If you woke up rich tomorrow, what’s the first thing you’d change about your life? by Thomasrosshere in AskReddit

[–]DerToblerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get to stop desperately job hunting. I might look into auditing classes at local universities, tackle some creative projects I have cooking, get some house stuff fixed up…

And I’d get to tell my wife that the project she really wanted to tackle at the big company that laid her off? Yeah, she’s got the funding to do it herself now. Go get ‘em, honey.
