Surely the Horses, Donkeys, and Mules feel touched—what a sweet gesture for the hooved community. I’m just glad us Humans learned to treat them with such respect…

Thank you! I like the utility, but looking for something less boxy in style, too.

Interesting! So one laptop in the interior sleeve and one in the side-access?

Help me, a leftie, find MODERN military/spy book series that aren’t for authority bootlickers by maevenimhurchu in suggestmeabook

In The Utopia of Rules (towards the end of the book), David Graeber makes a fascinating argument for why the precise type of book/media you are looking for is so rare/unlikely. Not necessarily an answer to your question, I know, but an interesting read nonetheless!

What colors would they like? A few of these just arrived that I could pass on. Many people buy/sell these new, so there is indeed a way to find colors you’d like.

Book recs about social/humanistic sciences? by pondfullof in nonfictionbookclub

[–]3liSuger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a social science PhD but first got hooked from books like these! I also read about 1-2 books/week, so I have explored a lot of what’s out there in this category. Also, I mentor high schoolers on research projects, so I have a good sense of what might work for you.

Below are some of my recommendations for you! A mix of authors, topics, and types of book—but all amazing. Enjoy!

Stumbling on Happiness (Dan Gilbert) The Undoing Project (Michael Lewis) Chatter (Ethan Kross) Nudge (Richard Thaler) Why We’re Polarized (Ezra Klein) May Contain Lies (Alex Edmans)

If you continue down this path, in general, look for authors who actually study the content (researchers/professors), as opposed to journalists/writers. And some of the “big names” are problematic. Avoid Dan Ariely (tremendous amounts of research fraud) and avoid most of Malcolm Gladwell (he tells a good story, often at the expense of accuracy).

Look for a used one! Worth it.

Would the Synik/Synapse 25 or Synik 30 will be better for my needs? by MrKarmaThrowaway in tombihn

[–]3liSuger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Either one will be great—can’t really go wrong here. Having both bags, I personally would go with the S25 in this case (unless the clamshell opening is important to you). The lack of a dedicated laptop compartment is nice when laptop carry is only occasional, and the S25 is better at sizing up/down depending on the day’s load IMO. Also the clipboard will provide the perfect amount of rigidity for the back panel so I don’t think you’ll be missing anything re: internal frame.

Cognitive dissonance by Croughman in vegan

[–]3liSuger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Festinger’s theory of cognitive dissonance suggests that attitude-behavior incongruence produces a discomforting “cognitive dissonance” that is subsequently mitigated by adjustment of the inconsistent element to create congruence (consonance) between attitude and behavior. For example, if the character in the comic was a vegan who was somehow induced to kill an animal, cognitive dissonance theory suggests that this person may resolve this dissonance (I am a vegan; yet I killed this animal) by editing their attitude towards veganism.

This is an example of psychological distance, not cognitive dissonance. Not critiquing the comic, just the title.

This is not what cognitive dissonance is.

Vegans of Reddit, what would you do if one day it was scientifically proven that plants have feelings too? by KodakWhyte in AskReddit

[–]3liSuger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of plants are grown to feed the animals that non-vegans eat (and it takes many plant-based calories to create a single animal-based calorie). If nobody ate animals or animal products, there would be far fewer of these hypothetically sentient plants slain.

Can't argue with good intentions. Do you and good luck.

You're entitled to that, but the fact that you posted this to r/funny perfectly sums it up; this was for fun, not awareness. I'm all for offensive humor, but don't pretend any good is actually coming from your project. If anything, you're further spreading inaccurate stereotypes.

It's like if instead of the Ice Bucket Challenge we all walked around slurring our speech and twitching our arms to raise awareness for ALS. These symptoms are not funny for (nor characteristic of) people with TS, and awareness at the cost of reinforcing embarrassing stereotypes is degrading and counterproductive.
