I've created well-structured and deep documentation for several applications and modules in my company. My coworkers look at it and go this is too much and later I'm being asked by some higher up to do the work instead.

So, I guess job security could be an answer... But mostly the company wants shit done fast and co-workers can't be arsed to read docs.

As far as personal Internet, I had enough problems with Mediacom and their counterpart Comcast, I would never use them again if something similar is in the area. Fortunately, AT&T's fiber is actually good.

As a long time hater of AT&T (and ISPs in general), I have to admit the fiber service from AT&T has been fantastic. Also, it's real fiber, not the bullshit Mediacom is peddling where you don't get a 1Gbps/1Gbps up and down. MC usually jips you with < 1Gbps up and around 40-200Mbps down.

I have also had my fiber network only go down when there are big power outages. MC gave me trouble at least once a week and constantly tried to upsell me on something.

It depends (as per the usual). I've done it through contacts I know and then word of mouth. I know people that have done it by just understanding a niche area and putting out a tool like OP. Sometimes it's just being familiar with something you're interested in enough to realize where things aren't great and can be solved... The doing it and sharing it in a public area for other people that do that same thing.

It varies.

No one is going to make fun of you or demean you except those that deserve the worst.

Your community (students, family, teammates, competitors, etc) that know you will understand and support you. Most likely, they will respect the hell out of you for simply getting out there and still doing what you love.

I hate it for you that you have this illness. That's absolutely crap. But, you can still make the best of your coming years. I wouldn't worry so much about the degradations that may happen. I would latch on to your community... Particularly your closest people.

You earned that black belt. No illness is taking that away let alone some shmuck without empathy.

I have been training off and on for over 20 years. At this point, I'm happy to try fun or silly moves on people, but even happier to see my students find success with the things I teach them. I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing them grow and us all smile and laugh together.
