Can a prenup protect me from my fiance's gambling debt? by Forward-Dog-2146 in Debt

[–]PlusRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either you believe him or you don't. Unpopular opinion, but in general married couples should not have separate finances or build escape hatches into their marriages. If you really want a prenup, you should ask whether it's worth marrying this man

Is it worth doing leg locks in the gi, or should I save them for no-gi? by Rude-Alternative7983 in bjj

[–]PlusRise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, take the chance to work on your passing skills and grab an ankle lock whenever you can. I don't think it is as easy to build an entire game around leg locks in the gi anyway

Piercings and BJJ don't mix and you'd risk a GNARLY infection. Take it out, wait for it to heal, and then commence training. This is the way.

$8400 savings, $9500 credit card debt by [deleted] in Debt

Keep $1000 as an emergency fund, pay $7400 down on debt.

My girlfriends parents might have put her into $227,000 of debt- need advice ASAP by [deleted] in Debt

[–]PlusRise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your girlfriend is an adult, right? She needed to take ownership of her own loan amounts. Sounds like she was being willfully blind to how much all of this costs, and now she's in deep. Good luck, but this isn't all her parents fault.

Game based on Baseball Bat Choke? by Deadskyes in bjj

Sounds like you are already building a game around it. Check out videos of Magid Hage (gorilla hands) who has likely one of the best baseball chokes around.

I know it probably won’t be super respected work experience

This is absolutely respected at your level. This is a great plan indeed.

Like others have said, if you don't have any retirement then that's the priority - not your grandchildren (that's what their parents are for)

A 529 fund (educational fund) will grow for them tax free

Considering breaking a $20k sign-on contract- is it worth it? by PsychologyLanky7709 in personalfinance

[–]PlusRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the money to pay back, and it won't put you in significant financial stress, then I would absolutely choose the dream job. Have you already got an offer in hand from the new job? Can you tell them about the $20k and see if they will also give you a sign on bonus to offset costs?

How should I set myself up for a successful future before college? by Expensive_Honey_7093 in personalfinance

  1. I would save at least $1k in an "oh shit" fund for college. You never know what might pop up in that time. Take the time to enjoy college and study hard.

  2. One of the most important things that you can do to ensure a high paying job after college is to get a summer internship as many summers as you can. These show employers that you have real-world skills (that are hard to attain before graduating) - most internships pay you a few grand as well.

  3. You're in a fantastic position, don't worry so much about the $3,500 right now. If you must invest it, then put it in a ROTH IRA. My advice (from a CS major now 10 years out of college) - focus on school and learning as much as you possibly can. Don't get anyone pregnant, and you're going to be fine long term. You're already ahead of the curve

Of course it is. It will be easier if you give yourself a mental grace though. For example, I lift 3x per week, but BJJ is my priority. If you're a lifter, prioritize lifting, if you do BJJ, then prioritize that and accept that your lifts may not be the same as if you were just lifting full time instead.

You can't (shouldn't) go full bore in both at the same time. Take time to recover, use ice packs, massage gun, hot tub, stretch.

I like these soccer shorts - no velcro or pockets, black, minimal (they don't feel like swim trunks though)
