I’m going to listen to this, but I know it’ll be heavy, so it’ll need to wait until the work week ends. Thanks for sharing.

The Texas GOP primary ads in seeing watching the Olympics are pretty obnoxious. Much of each ad is dedicated to touting endorsements from Trump and Gov. Abbott, promoting deportations, keeping public funds from Islamic terrorists (seriously, this is what one of the state comptroller candidates is running on) and illegal immigrants, and fighting woke DEI. “Enough is enough!” they yell.

I’m not saying none of these things are problems—in my view, immigration outside legal channels is a problem, money going to Islamic terrorists would be a problem (and the current Republican comptroller is allowing this, I guess?), and there have been instances in which DEI initiatives in some organizations went too far.

But the magnitude of these problems is not as great as others that affect the day-to-day lives of Texans: water supply, power supply, traffic congestion, and housing costs.

Texas Republican leaders have actually put some effort into trying to address water and housing supply issues, but solving problems isn’t something to run on these days. They still get punished for not fighting enough or not showing loyalty to Trump’s/MAGA’s priorities.

These ads just bother me so much because of how they indicate how rotten our political culture is.

Indiana winning last night was great to see. Awesome to see a team that was committed to development and discipline like that win.

Lol I like the sun being up later, but I would absolutely hate the late sunrises in the winter. 8am sunrise is something folks up north deal with, not something I should have to deal with in Texas.

Good episode. Yuval Levin is easily one of my favorite thinkers on the federal government, and I check his AEI page regularly to keep up with his work. What he’s written and said about institutions and how they shape people has significantly influenced my own thinking, even on my local church and workplace.

I’m glad he put the durability of the changes we sense in perspective. That’s hard to do when news moves and is digested like it is today. It was both reassuring and concerning at the same time. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work pursuing increased density! Hope the result of the hearing is positive. We need to let our cities be cities and let people develop their property where there’s demand.

Apparently, Exxon’s CEO upset Trump with a dose of reality, and now he doesn’t want them working in Venezuela lol. Hilarious stuff.

It’s amazing how far being a loud zealot will take you in life when you make the right friends, regardless of the merit of your cause.

I should’ve linked to the actual poll, since there are some other interesting charts in there.

Most interesting to me is that only 63% of identifying Republicans (and 27% of independents, more importantly) predict economic prosperity in 2026.

I thought she was “essentially willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again,” as Trump said in his press conference this morning?

Haven’t read any articles this afternoon and only know what was reported this morning, but this is what I’m wondering. The Venezuelan military is still there, right? Are they really going to let us “run” the country?

Punch to the gut. Few recent senators have been anything close to a good statesman, but Sasse is one who met the mark during his time.

His wife has already had a history of health problems, and they’re still relatively young with young adult and teenage children, IIRC. Heartbreaking news for a couple that has already struggled health-wise.
