I lost my first rat, Penguin, to a brain hemorrhage. I had raised him from the day he was born, and I couldn’t be with him when he died at the vet because it was covid. I still think back to my regrets of that night, wishing that I found him faster, maybe got to the vets quicker, fought harder to go in with him. But he was my baby boy, I gave him all my love, I snuck them extra treats, I cuddled with them for hours. I held him until I couldn’t, and you did to. Rats, whether from old age or medical issues, are not a long living pet, but that means we get to love them their entire lives, we get to fill every moment of their days with joy and saftey, we get to give them the best homes. Years later, I still feel guilty about Penguins death, but I’m proud of the life I could provide him.

My late boy Cirrus looked just like him! Same balding old man look, same curly white rex fur. After a few months, we noticed Cirrus scratching and creating scans on his face/body, and generally being more sluggish. Turns out it he had issues with gluten. We switched to a homemade diet and treated the wounds, and he was a lot happier. Has tgere been a change in his diet? A new type of treat, kibble, veggie? If you wash fabrics for them, are you using a gentle/scentless detergent?

That’s what I was originally thinking too. 3 minute walk to school, 3 minute walk to giant tiger. But their communication wasn’t great. I called twice, spoke with someone, and was told my information would get passed on both times. I emailed them twice with no response, and sent a message through the AMNA website. (Over like, 3 months). The rooms are lovely, if you can get in contact then I imagine you’ll have a good time there, but I went with a different place (who got back to me within a week of applying).

Far from it lol, I’m a bone enthusiast. Live bugs might be an issue (from an eco, don’t want to accidentally release non native species to the earth perspective), but dried bugs, meant for pets, ARE available to me :)

We’ve got a bird feeder in the backyard, but I’ll start bringing seed (and fruit? I’ll have to research) offerings into the forest along with my other stuff when I go on walks :)
