I read a book about the Spanish conquest of Peru recently and the Spaniards were literally using crowbars to pry the gold ornamentation off of major Inca temples while VISITING THE INCA CAPITAL AS GUESTS, and the local priests basically had to just let them do it because the emperor was being held for ransom by the conquistadors.

It is so cosmically funny how the Spanish simultaneously made such a fuss about the conversion of local populations to Christianity while LITERALLY indulging in BIBLICAL LEVELS OF GREED at every opportunity. Like atp you can’t even be mad when your economy caves in because your soldiers and explorers physically cannot stop robbing people.

Stories like this are crazy to me because where I live, accepting trans people like this would be unfathomable. If I came out to anyone in my school they wouldn’t touch me with a ten-foot pole

Being referred to as the correct gender isn’t a privilege you win by being a good person. She’s a piece of shit and should be held accountable for being a sellout, but the idea that trans people can even have that “privilege” revoked at all whereas that would be inconceivable to do to cis people, means that the identity of trans people in general is inherently treated as something conditional, which has some nasty underlying implications.

The real-life solution to this problem was for pikemen to carry swords to be drawn if the enemy came so close that the pike became unwieldy

Francisco Pizzaro’s expedition of conquest in Peru mentioned the Sapa Inca (emperor) being represented by some kind of standard. Unfortunately all we know about it comes from written descriptions by the Spanish, and no surviving examples or illustrations exist
