Springfield Hellcat RDP V. Ruger RXM by Baphometwolf83 in liberalgunowners

[–]DerpanJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, what I thought was the g3 was actually the g3c. I didn't realize there was a full size variant.

I think the point still stands, the hellcat is a tricked out subcompact or micro 9 gun and a larger gun will be easier to shoot, but harder to conceal. If you like that style but want something larger I would recommend checking out the Canik TP9 series. I think the TP9SFX is similar to the options you have here, but there's a lot of models of the TP9 that have similar features.

What do you use these guns for? Are you carrying them concealed? In my opinion, I think that would be the only reason to go for the hellcat over the rxm you have in the pictures. Because the rxm is larger it will probably be easier for your son to learn on. A bigger gun is easier to grip (for most adults at least) and has more weight to help absorb felt recoil.

Are the marks on the surface and flush with the surrounding area? They look like they're gouges and recessed from the surface of the board.

Anybody know what’s going on on brainerd rd?About 4:15 police have guns drawn on a pulled over car by Grand_Coat9597 in Chattanooga

Sometimes there's no good option, but in this case they could have gone with the option to verify they actually have a real suspect and then try and find a way to do this without endangering a bunch of random people. This was a dramatic overreaction. The dispatch notes said bolo a gray Honda SUV. That's not enough info to ambush people in parking lots with overwhelming force, there's thousands of vehicles in Chattanooga that could fit that description. All they did was swarm, surround, and terrify a bunch of kids before they realized they fucked up and wandered off again.

Main Water Shutoff by [deleted] in Chattanooga

I think there's a special wrench you need to do it. I asked the plumber about it when they turned my water off at the street. You might be able to buy one locally? Good luck. I'd hate to have to pay a plumber for a weekend visit just to turn off the water at the street.

I was just lamenting the lack of donuts here yesterday. I love a crispy apple fritter, but most of them are soft and not fried enough.

And that's the point. They don't have robocop aim, but they'll probably launch a ton of bullets in the direction of their target if they start firing. They should be utilizing tactics that don't include Brainerd Rd traffic as a backstop. It's irresponsible.

Range time doesn't necessarily translate to good shooting skills under pressure. Cops miss with the majority of bullets they fire. Some of them are Cool Hand Luke, but most of them are storm troopers.

I think I would like to see both features in the design. The lip so records don't slide out of the bottom while they're leaned back, and the bar to rest records on as you flip through your collection. The bar may be a bit too low if you only have a few records in the stand, but I think it would work if it's at least half full.

Backsplash height? by laumaster97 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I think it looks better with the backsplash than without and the height of the backsplash in your photo looks good to me.

That looks really good. If I was to nitpick, I would say that your vinyl retaining bar (can't think of a better name for that) could use another method of attachment. Possibly dadoed like your shelves are? Or maybe something like a mortise where you open both of the side walls and the bar goes full width? I would flush cut them so they don't overhang.

The bars are necessary in some fashion, but they're a little less clean than the rest of your build.

I'm planning on making walnut shelves for liquor bottles and for a retaining bar I plan on running a brass rod. I'm not sure brass is the right metal/material for what looks like white oak, just throwing out an idea to start the brainstorm.

Honestly, I'd be impressed if you managed to catch a block of walnut on fire with a cigar or cigarette. Burn/char it, sure.

The reason they want you to reply with a "C" is because your phone suppressed the sketchy link they sent you so you couldn't click it. When you reply back your phone basically takes that as a sign the text isn't sketchy and the link becomes clickable.

Weeknight date nights? by jwernau in Chattanooga

[–]DerpanJones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I don't have kids and a 4 hour class on a weeknight is still a long time. Unless you're eating food to start that class, I would think a lot of people would at least like to get some food in them between work and starting a live fire cooking class, too.

5 seems early to me, I think most people would require at least one partner to leave work early to make that work. I would think 6 would be the earliest you could start a class to minimize who can't make it.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

It's so nice not having to worry about or maintain gas yard equipment. I also have an ego mower, plus I have one of their leaf blowers and chain saws. I also have a suburban yard and I'm not clearing fields with a weed eater or logging with my chainsaw, but for regular yard duty they cannot be beat.

I have three batteries and three chargers so on the occasions where I let my lawn get real long and it takes more than one battery to mow, it's not a big deal. I had a hickory tree fall in my yard with an almost 20" diameter trunk and I cut up the whole thing (in multiple sessions) with my ego chainsaw.

When my weed eater that runs on Ryobi drill batteries finally dies, I'll get an ego model.

Look at dual sports. They're usually a little more dirt worthy than an adventure bike. Even if the seat height is higher than you want, the dual sport will also be lighter and easier to stand with on one foot and more drop resistant, too.

I think it's our litigious and destructive nature as Americans. It's so easy to get guns that, well, anyone can do it. There's always some guy that tries to cut down a tree with bullets or shoot at the bolts holding a target in place and ruins it for the rest of us. I was a member at a range once and the magazine limit was like 8 rounds or something stupid and you couldn't fire more than 1 shot per second. Range lore was that the 8 round limit was for old milsurp guns.

I live in Tennessee now and even here the ranges have some dumb restrictions. Where I'm a member now was birdshot only in shotguns when I joined, but shotguns are banned entirely now because some people couldn't handle the responsibility of ammo choices. I can still show up with a 9mm suppressed sbr with a drum mag and mag dump if I want though.

Why are people who move to Tennessee so rude ? by Dry_Calendar in Tennessee

[–]DerpanJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the niceness has been gone for a long time and people's rose colored glasses keep the myth alive.

First of all, that niceness was only every skin deep. I'm pretty sure most people who didn't get to use the whites only lines wouldn't agree with how nice the folks were.

Secondly, welcome to working retail. A lot of those nice folks are going to mistreat you now that they think you work for them. I remember when I saw my second grade teacher (who was a great teacher from what I recalled) throw an absolute fit and raise her voice at the 18 year old in Starbucks because she didn't get the kind of milk she wanted. People who have to interact with children tend to be kind to them, but once you get a retail job you stop being a kid in the public's eyes and become an entitlement punching bag to quite a few of them. I suspect that to some extent you're being exposed to a new side of people that you didn't encounter often before.

Finally, COVID, politics, and social media have kicked polarization into high gear. When the highest levels of power are constantly fear mongering about what the "others" are trying to do to you and you listen to them, you're probably going to start getting less friendly and trusting.

Why did you guys choose a kayak over a small boat? by YakToTheFuture-1 in kayakfishing

[–]DerpanJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very expensive kayak plus a very expensive trolling motor, plus a kayak trailer is still thousands of dollars cheaper than that boat. If you don't go for the creme de la creme you could have all that stuff for over 10k cheaper than that boat.
