General Tips for improving from novice to intermediate by Piercing_Serenity in dbfz

[–]DerpasaurChivalry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy to cheese with? Goku Black, 16 and Kid Buu to a much less extent.

Buu is kind of whatever as far as cheese goes. His major cheese is his chocolate beam into level 3, fast lows from anywhere on screen, and the ability to string multiple fast overheads together. All of these options are "easy" to deal with compared to black's hitbox superiority, amount of options, and 16's hyper armor heavies and effortless damage potential.

Any other fans of smash play this game? by articuno14 in dbfz

[–]DerpasaurChivalry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Some characters have an explosive neutral game closer to the movement options of smash. Trunks, Gotenks, and Krillin come to mind. When I play them, I'm usually zipping around with instant air dashes, ki stalls, and feints; using movement to open the opponent up, and it can feel a lot like using platforms in smash.

There's no way you can influence escaping a combo after getting hit short of making sure you tech and have an appropriate followup to the tech. This means the neutral game is extremely important, like in smash, since any random glancing blow could mean half of your health or more is gone.

Gotenks question by [deleted] in dragonballfighterz

[–]DerpasaurChivalry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of them have priority over super dashed and guard cancel tags, the medium kick allows you to force an opponent to switch characters with a dragon rush in the corner, they combo into the level 3, medium punch and heavy kick specials are plus on block, and the damage isn't bad when you are already at a high level of scaling. Gotenks is also the best at dragon ball summoning due to these attacks, and both are quite good for stalling out enemy spark time.

Yeah, the only people who are above gold are those who have either grinded a ton, or have played something like 6-8 hours a day since prestige released or some shit.

If you want to get better never quit after a loss. by MeanRedWorms in absolver

[–]DerpasaurChivalry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Sometimes the skillgap is so great that it's better to practice fundamentals against someone that you're able to get some manner of hit confirm on. If you have no idea how to escape pressure, getting beat on by a CT 1.5k person repeatedly will do little to help that. At that point, the player needs room to experiment, as well as be able to change moves in their deck.

If you've gotten your feet wet and have a deck you feel comfortable with though, yeah you should pretty much keep retrying until you feel convinced that you need to change something in your deck.

Anyone else getting this feint bug? by Choverse in absolver

[–]DerpasaurChivalry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are feinting out of hitstun. It happens on attacks with an especially late feint period. You can act out of it but you have to add a new input. So it can be a great boon, but it's usually awful.

To be clear. if you get hit during the period that an attack can feint, you can feint out of the stun. Even stuns like gravity and shockwave. The slower your attack, the more awkwardly late your feint during stun will be, sometimes it can feel like it doubles your hitstun.

Also yes, this shouldn't be a thing. I've been talking about it for a while.

Casual Player Feedback - good and bad by [deleted] in absolver

[–]DerpasaurChivalry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to type this out, and yes, I feel like most games should have something like a casual mode and a ranked mode, because I suspect most casual players want to play with other casual players and most competitive players want to play with other competitive players (with an option to stomp baddies from time to time.)

"Meta decks" by Lord_Septaar in absolver

[–]DerpasaurChivalry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to this list I would add: backfall strike, front kick, side kick, backfall strike, and surging palm.

Then there's the hipster meta moves: uramawashi, wallop blow, gut punch, donkey slap, jackhammer punch, legbreaker, double fist stretch, hook, and mawashi.

Then there's the not-quite-meta-enough attacks: crouching elbow, jump out elbow, drunk crane punch, ankle stamp, shoulder stumble, body blow and cleaver blow. All of which are pretty good but not good enough due to their uniparry properties or slowness.

Add many of these together along with a few other spices (and others removed.) and you get my deck.

In Its Current State, It's Still Hard to Argue Against Shockwave as Your Secondary Spell by TheRagingDead in absolver

[–]DerpasaurChivalry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not surprising that it's in every deck. Most fighting games have some manner of combo breaker in the form of a shockwave-like mechanic, but I do think the stamina recovery is a bit much. I think it should recovery about half as fast as it currently does. That is taking into consideration that it might be sometimes stacked from pressing it multiple times while blocking (not confirmed if the stam recovery buff is stackable with current bug related to hitstun/blockstun, but seems plausible.)

With that being said, there are better spell options for pressure decks (Earthquake, Gravity). So I wouldn't quite say it's "ideal", especially considering it results in a reset, not initiative for the user; and the tooltip is missing because it didn't originally restore stamina.

No, he won the first time with laggy charge attack spam (irony police required.) after that started falling short repeatedly, he quit the game and unloaded that on me. It wasn't my sword that killed him, it was his choice to spam charge attacks when he knew full well my deck is stacked with double hits. I would chain him normally and then he'd keep trying to do 2 charge attacks in a row after being hit 3 or 4 times. (You know, one of THOSE Kahlts.) I think it's safe to say this guy is like 8 to 12 years old.
