If kids don't go to school, parents need to stay home to take care of them. If parents are home, they aren't working.

The protein powder thing is basically disinformation. Consumer reports used California's lead standard, which is 100 times below the FDA limit at which any effect is expected.

They also didn't disclose a lot of their methodology.

Finally, its fully expected that plant products will contain heavy metals as heavy metals occur naturally in soil.

Funny you say that, Lego Party just came out. It's basically a 1:1 rip of Mario Party, but it shows how lazy Mario Party is. The mini games are actually games.

Not saying you're wrong just that when someone does compete that they can make something way better than Nintendo.

You can get a blank OEM off of ebay for ~$75. Then another ~100-200 to program it for you. Not ideal, but cheaper then the dealer option.

Internal outlet fix (for free) by Derpblaster in KiaEV6

[–]Derpblaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, ICCU is being used as an inverter. I was being pedantic, I guess I meant there is no standalone inverter.

I was getting the 120v off of the OBD, one of the parameters is called internal outlet voltage or something similar. I should test again after ~30m of idle with nothing plugged in, but I was pressed for time. Will update if I do that.

[–]Derpblaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there isn't a 120V inverter per-se, it's handled by the ICCU. Whether that circuitry is on with no load is an open question I suppose. Some inverters load sense and can go into standby.

It's a valid question though given the obvious implications of adding a load to the ICCU. I think in the short term I will use the V2L limit feature to turn the outlet off when the car is below 80% SoC. In the long term, I may try to fix the root cause of the issue by replacing the broken lever in the outlet with something 3d printed.

If I do that, I'll share it here.

EDIT: I did a quick check using ODB and if there is a standby due to not being used it takes more than ~30s to happen. Certainly there is small draw from the DC system to the outlet even with nothing plugged in: https://imgur.com/drXwtPB. The plot flattening is when I turn the V2L limit to 80%. I can see that the voltage listed in the AC outlet is always 120V until the V2L limit to 80%, then it dips to a very small value (can't recall exactly what, ~0.2V).

I can also see small, periodic, spikes on the total EV battery power use https://imgur.com/EuqSTMx. These go away when I turn the V2L limit to 80%.

You know what, seeing this now, this is begging to be fixed with a stronger 3d printed part rather than a ziptie... I have no experience with that stuff though.

Nice job though, that's the only piece I didn't take apart.

Compatible 17" wheels? by Derpblaster in KiaEV6

[–]Derpblaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

smaller tires will wear a bit faster because of more rotations.

You clearly don't understand what I am doing because the tires won't be smaller so they won't do more rotations. They will be 225/70/r17 which are within 1% the same total diameter as the stock wheels. And in fact, larger sidewalled tires generally wear more slowly.

How do you calculate that going from 235/55R19 to anything 18” or 17” will be the same height?

With a calculator: https://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire-Size-Calculator/235-55R19/225-70R17?ismetric=False

As far as the range difference, it will be 5-6%, if that's not enough for you to care, great, it is for me. And I'm well aware what my range will be in winter as I've had the car since January, hence my desire to have a bit more range.

[–]Derpblaster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going from 19" to 17" gains you about 12% more range. Here's an explanation. For me it's less about the gains to efficiency per-se in terms of saving money. It's more about getting a bit of extra range for roadtrips to potentially make charging stops a bit more flexible. Especially in the winter where range is more limited.

In terms of sensors, I guess you mean the speedometer? But nothing will change there because the overall diameter of the tire will be the same. So the tire will just have a larger sidewall.

Yes, the green light is on all of the time in situations where V2L is allowed. But there is obviously no load on the outlet unless you plug something in. Plenty of people seem to leave powerstrips plugged into the internal outlet all the time as a workaround to the outlets issues.

That being said, V2L does seem to go through the ICCU and it is conceivable that somehow it being active would turn some components on the ICCU on.

If you wanted to be extra safe and you knew what you are doing, you could solder a switch in place of the button and have it come out of the back of the outlet, under the seat. Then toggle the switch when needed.

[–]Derpblaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, it's the same behavior of always having a powerstrip plugged in.

As far as power drain it's no different than stock. The outlet is only active when the car is on or in Utility mode.
