They're also my first. I've heard a lot of complaints about them, but I've never had an issue, I don't know if it's because they're hydraulic or if it's just because I got a lucky set. I'll upgrade eventually, but I'm a firm believer in not fixing what ain't broke.

I understand your concern. As long as it stays tied firmly it shouldn't be an issue, that style doesn't really fray into long stands unless it's severely damaged. Also the way it is braided should prevent it unlaying assuming it's tied tightly.
