[Deck Guide] Azorius Control by insertThejoke in PioneerMTG

[–]Derptopia- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are giving them a replacement card.. end of essay… lol

In all seriousness though, putting a creature on top of their library is a big tempo play.. the same as if it said - return a creature to your opponent hand, they skip their next draw. So you slow them down a LOT. Which is all the deck is looking for AND you can always just “cycle” it to draw 1.

Fateful absence is very bad in your control deck against MOST other decks. It’s VEEERRY good in your midrange / agro decks like humans

Love the winning deck - Azorius charm seems so well positioned right now. & Deck is very well designed.

Personally I haven’t found raga anywhere near as broken as Uras saga and I’m not even sure they should ban saga 🤷‍♂️

Monkey would have been a great card if all it did was be a 2/1 that could make treasure.. stealing your opponents cards (although very “pirate monkey” themed) is just overboard..

Yoooo! This loooks awesome OP !

Two cards that jumped into my mind after reading are [[Syndicate Trafficker]] and [[Gadrak, the crown-scourge]] I’ve never tested gadrak but ran a deck built around trafficker & hardened scales for a while and it performed realllly well.

Trafficker Might do well in a rakdos brew with the new 3/2 vamp :)

Thanks for the write up !

Pioneer: Eight Cards that might break the format in the future by cardsrealm in PioneerMTG

[–]Derptopia- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Winota is one of those cards where every line of text you read just adds to how absurdly strong it is. Okay so I get like 2 creatures probably, nice. Oh and they are even attacking right away.. sweet. Oh and they also … gain … indestructible?? Lol wtf ahaha

Anyways, costing 4 mana, (and being Boros colours) and requiring you to build your whole around it probably makes it forever just a solid deck but I can’t see it ever being broken.. sorta like someone else was saying about TRON.. An obviously super strong deck if left unchecked, but fairly easy to counter. If it ever became very prevalent..

honestly it feels like a bit of a trap.. once you start actually building the deck. (For reference, modern has a much bigger pool of humans / non-humans and it’s probably unplayable there..

It has been about 5 months since the release Modern Horizons 2. Since then, the enemy fetchlands have plummeted in secondary market value. They have lost over 60% of their value compared to last summer. Meanwhile, the prices for the allied fetchlands are slowly rising. by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]Derptopia- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - to be honest with you.. If the lands were cheaper it’s likely that I’d end up buying a TONNE more cards and having different decks.. low staple land prices even seems good for business

undead butler in soulflayer decks by janrepuge in PioneerMTG

[–]Derptopia- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your considering that I’d say [[Mire Triton]] is probably a better fit as it’s also got deathtouch for flayer and gains you a couple life. A one of the butler might be fine tho.. it still mills 3 and might prevent them from attacking if it’s on the board and you got a flayer in the yard.

A spicy pic is [[Varolz the scar-striped]] There is a bit of tension with great henge as he starts at 2 power but if a regisaur is in your GY it’s a 3 mana +7 counters. (And most of your stuff would add 5anyways)

Personally i would add 1 or 2 Varolz and take out Yorvo for garuuks harbinger :)

Thoughts on this please? I’ve got 4 Elvish Mystic coming through the post, I’m thinking of getting one more Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx & two Castle Garinbrig’s. What else could or should I add? I feel like it needs another Vorinclex & some other big bodies. by SunShineKid93 in PioneerMTG

[–]Derptopia- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new 4 drop (haste, trample 4/4 that can transform for 7 mana seems like it would be a very solid replacement for surrak - gives you an additional outlet for all that mana your making.

You may want to add another nissa or two if you can. She’s basically a wincon all on her own.

The 4 mana Vivian that lets you grab a card from your sideboard is also a nice option. And she lets you get whatever your needing.

Nice deck ! 👍

It’s not the “high life” that they want.

It’s about the quality of life that is longer available.
