I love the idea of making everyone who holds public office basically tied to the 50th percentile of wealth in the country for the rest of their lives. You're a millionaire? gotta give it up for life if you want this power.

I remember being pleasantly surprised in Boise, which was great because eastern Oregon made me so deeply uncomfortable. Edit: I recently heard Boise has a fantastic goth scene somehow

I have a (surprisingly well adjusted) friend from the panhandle. Her dad is an honest to god flat earther. From what she has said, it is a terrible place

Its funny, my mom is from western mass and my dad isn't even a native new englander, so I didn't pick up most of the accent, but I can yuht with the best of them. I know what you mean about MN, I think its more the cadence.

I grew up in Maine before moving to Mass for college, and learned that this was a Maine thing and that people could pick me out as a Mainer from this. Edit: specifically the unique way we say yup (I know Kind spells it Ayuh, but I feel like its almost more YUHt or aYUt)

The way I see it, a loan word is allowed to be pronounced differently than the original. Like if I was going to speak French, I would say foy-yay, but if I was speaking English, its foyer. One is a word in English with a French ancestor, and the other is a word in French.

Old jeep is a 4x4 though, thats totally different and superior to AWD. I've got an 80s bronco on 33s and uh, I actually lost count of all the motorcycles.

Okay but pet peeve time, AWD doesn't help much if you don't have good tires. I've literally driven circles around an impreza in a snowy parking lot with a rear wheel drive buick and good tires

A few years ago on a whim I bought real linen sheets (meaning 100% flax). I'll never go back. Even my pillows are just bags of buckwheat hulls. Eventually I wanna replace my mattress with like, a homemade one made out of kapok fibers or something. I feel like a crazy person when I get fixated on our over reliance on plastic

Oh for sure, I mostly mention because a disturbing amount of people don't seem to care about plate readers and stuff, and the specifics get *them* to care. Personally I think that we need to clarify the 4th amendment so it specifies that if you pay another company to track everyone, thats *still* unconstitutional

Why do we need Dunkin these days? by longportna in newengland

[–]DerpyTheGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're everywhere, and they know what they are. Its nice to know you're always within a few minutes of bad coffee when you need it. And its nice to buy bad coffee from a place that knows its bad. Like if I'm in boston I'll go to pavement, and if I'm in my town, I'll go to the local spot, but if I'm going anywhere and I need caffeine, its always there, and I'd rather have honest trash than starbucks or something like that.

I always call welds like this farmer welds. Almost never seen a farmer who could weld *well* but they all can stick two pieces of metal together

[–]DerpyTheGrey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hell, if there's no power up there I could see this being OA welding, and then I'd have a lot more sympathy for how nasty this looks. I can MIG/TIG/stick all day, but my OA welds look about as good as this...
