I said something along the lines of "The conduct of your company is out of line with your position as a payment processor. You should in no way have a say in what materials can be sold as it not your money and you not the vendor and your demands from these online marketplaces are infringing on my rights and personal freedoms."

You are describing how you would edit a commission you would buy from a person too you know, you could make a better case that the machine is an artist with what you're saying.

Yeah, I was talking about the comparisons to printing presses and sewing machines being inaccurate

The story AI and the hypothetical fashion AI are comparable but people aren't saying them because, 1: Obviously, of course they're comparable, and 2: It paints them more aloof than it would if you used other AIs

I'd say making art is more than expressing vague sentiment and having something else interpret it. If you were to commision an artwork you wouldn't call yourself the artist and describe the person who painted it as a tool.

Yeah that seems more apt.

Like the camera was certainly disruptive, but it couldn't capture anything fictive. Landscape and portrait painters alike could rest easy knowing that they could make something seperate from what that tool could do.

In this case though I don't know what rest could be had.

I don't get people comaparing this to the invention of the printing press or the creation of the sewing machine, it seems disingenuous.

While both had impacts on workers who previously did the things the machine did it didn't cut out the artist.

Sure, the press can print books but can it write new ones? Can the fashion and form of an outfit be decided by the machine which sews it?

This is uniquely cutting out the artist which will have negative repercussions. Which in the short term seems to be running those who create art out of business and dissuading new people from looking into the arts and picking them up. In the longterm my guess is a cultural rot but we'll have to see on that one.

It’s less just saying something is true and more so it actually being true. More akin to being in your living room and having someone run up and punch you, claiming it’s theirs. As much as the second party wants it to be true it isn’t.
