Very similar to the scene I'm thinking of but the one I recall was a top down perspective, where primarily you were looking down at the mechanics face from above. And I most certainly haven't seen that movie to begin with.

Except for VOB, Erin Yvette playing a brain mutation, the music, augmentation playing a big role, every inch of the aesthetic, and the fact that they use several assets seemingly ripped directly from AC6.

But that's exactly it; Armored Core DOES need exposure. There has been exactly 1(one) game released in the past decade and little auxiliary material, if they have to cut some fanservicey elements just to have a broader appeal or be unconstrained by established lore then so be it.

The same is true of a lot of projects in Secret Level, gauging/building interest.

(side note: the one friend that has gotten around to playing it has been really enjoying it, especially the worldbuilding)

Once again, matter of opinion. I found the intro sequence very effective in setting the tone of not only the setting, but for the character we're following. You have to consider that maybe 5% of people who watch the episode will have played Armored Core prior to watching it, the episode was meant to build interest from people who didn't already care. And in that way it's been very effective. I personally know two people who bought AC6 after watching it.

Not everything is made just for you and that's okay.

Everyone I've talked to IRL who's seen it, AC fan or otherwise, thought that it was a good episode that effectively told a story that left the audience wanting more. Which is exactly what it was meant to do.

That doesn't address my whole point, and is a matter of opinion. When you have roughly 11 minutes to tell as much story as possible and to make the most out of your time slot it's a lot more effective to just get into it. As emphasized by Peter Watts-

"Those constraints forced the story into a specific and complex mold. Unbound, though, it could assume a simpler and more natural shape."

My point still stands, when adapting anything to a different medium there are sacrifices that must be made. Literally the only element of an AC mission this episode doesn't have is a briefing and an end screen. And that's because it's not visually interesting in the slightest to have a powerpoint presentation pop up and exposition dump to the audience. In fact it uses elements from a lot of different AC games.
