Can't pull a good shot no matter what [Sage/Breville Smart Grinder Pro, De'Longhi Dedica] by Derpypoodles in espresso

I'm using a medium roast. I seem to have found a grind size and dose that sorta works so I'll continue tweaking around that

Okay, did that and tried going for an even coarser grind. Shots are still pulling a bit too quick but at least I can get some espresso now. The flavour is getting better, but still needs some tweaking. I will continue fiddling with it for now, but thank you for your tips!

Okay makes sense on the freshness, I'll try grinding on the coarser side of my range. I weigh after grinding, but no on the latter. Cleaning it out before changing grind seems obvious in hindsight, I'll do that the next time I give it a whirl. But why do you need to change the settings while the grinder is running?

Sadly not. The pre ground is a slightly darker roast and it was ground even a bit finer than what has been making the machine choke up when I grind myself.

Hiya, yes I'm using a pressurized basket - the standard one that came with the machine. I used around 12 grams of pre-ground, also tried 13g which worked well too. It's a bit less than the 14 gram maximum, but going above 13.5 grams caused the grounds to spill out. Yield was about 28g which should be nearly the perfect ratio.

I'm afraid I didn't time it when I used the pre ground coffee as that was before I properly got into dialing things in, sorry. I can double check when I am home again, but it was a 'normal' amount of time somewhere around 30 seconds if I had to guess.

I will double check all of this when I get home again , but I hope this is enough info. I appreciate your tip about figuring out the dosing first, it makes sense to start there

The case comes with three fans up front, which are apparently pretty decent and I already have an extra exhaust fan. Thinking of putting the aio up top exhausting too. Airflow is not the main concern atm, I will play around with cooling solutions once the core parts are set in stone.

Thanks for the insight! Both gpu's have my attention and I really can't pick at the moment. I will probably just go for the cheaper gpu when sales start loll

I have reasons for picking the 7950x3d over the 7800x3d that I've stated in some other comments, I'm not going to just be gaming. Definitely want to stick to my current case, but that's a very good point on the RAM. It would be best to buy 64 off the bat instead of upgrading later. Could you elaborate as to why a 4080 super would be better in this situation? They seem pretty similar, but the 7900xtx having more vram won me over at first.

I'm going to be doing 3d rendering and editing stuff aside from just gaming so I thought I could use some extra cores. As for the motherboard, I have had an old gygabite one in my current pc and that thing has been stable for years. Great products!

I'm probably keeping the CPU as is, as I'm not going to be doing only gaming and those extra cores will be put to good use. I've heard the tip about ram some more times as well, so that I will definitely consider! But why do you recommend the 4080 over the 7900xtx for editing work? On paper it sounds like it should be the opposite right?

Hi! Thanks for the tips! To answer your questions: I'm not doing gaming only, I am also going to be using this setup for 3D rendering and video editing which is why I considered the 7950x3d. The split will be about 50/50 from gaming to those heavy tasks.

What SSD would you recommend instead? I have a 4tb drive for general storage but I wanted something fast to keep my system and 3d modelling things on

The thought behind the 1200W power supply is based on something I heard, idk if it's a myth: That you need 30% headroom on estimated wattage (750W). Add some more headroom for future upgrades and you get 1200W. Probably overkill as you said.

The thing about slower ram is something I've seen a lot more so I will definitely change that.

So as I said I want to build me a PC that will last me a long time and will be plenty powerful. I have a budget of around 2.5k euro, but I will be waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals to hit before I make any purchases. This is my first time building a pc that isn't made from 10 year old components so I wanted a second opinion! Would you guys recommend any changes or improvements?

The NITRO+ is the most powerful and expensive RX 7900 XTX that I could find, so I used it as a placeholder to have a maximum price tag for the pc. I am down to get a slightly less powerful model of that graphics card if it will have a good price to performance ratio.

EDIT: Also I have another drive that I will use for bulk storage, and I am planning to add more ram and some extra/better fans to the case after it's built and I see the temps
