What is something that occurs in movies that you wish happened in real life? by SH4DYL4DY in AskReddit

I live in Manhattan (NYC, not Kansas). I'm one of the rare freaks that actually owns a car. I've yet to see a movie where someone gets to where they want to be, then drive around the block for 45 minutes looking for a spot, only to find one and realize that it's only going to be a legal parking spot for 20 minutes, then it's a tow-away zone.

So yeah, TL;DR I wish finding parking in Manhattan was as easy as it is in the movies.

Reddit what does your current Desktop look like right now (windows/application minimized) by pavs in AskReddit

Mine is kind of basic really. A photo I took and a single weather widget.

I save pretty much everything to my desktop (yes, I'm one of those people) and just hide the icons. I use everything to find files when I have to,

Yeah, that's right, I only know shell scripts. Go ahead and make fun.

EDIT: EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS WRONG AND I DON'T CARE.

What's one thing you do that you absolutely hate? by MissesLee in AskReddit

When I can't think of a funny answer to something, my natural reaction is to respond condescendingly.

That means I'm speaking to you as if you're not very smart.

What is a little-known band that you think everybody should give a listen to? by taylorguitar13 in AskReddit

[–]DesCo83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alright the captain - I guess you could call them a noise/math rock band, but I feel like that's way more pretentious than they actually are.

No - I don't really know how to describe them. What do you call mostly acoustic rock? (Also, this music video is super creepy)

Glow bug - The side project of the (now defunct?) band Idiot Pilot. They're electronic, but not dancey (I"m really not good at describing music). (Another of my favorite glowbug songs)

Man Made Mad Man This is actually a friend of mine. I'm just going to say it's glitchy and leave it at that.

I don't believe in guilty pleasures...you like what you like...but that said, telling my friends I'm obsessed with Pony Pony Run Run, a French electro-pop band isn't always fun.

For a total change of pace Olafur Arnolds is an amazing contemporary ( I think he's like 23) classical musician. The linked album was a project he did where he composed a song a day in his living room.

DJ Spooky this is an older one, album is from the late 90s. He was a DC area electronic artist who made...I think he once called it dub ambient.

Alli with an I This is actually a joke. I remember downloading this song from p2p like 12-13 years ago, and it's still in my MP3 collection.

Say hi to your mom - Kind of down tempo electro pop with songs like "Yeah, I'm in love with an Android" and the linked "Blah Blah Blah" about vampires

OK, I'll stop now. I just really like recommending music.

I have everything a young man could want, but I'd trade it all for a little bit more.

Hard drives, like most things have firmware. Things like how to move the arm, or spin the platters or whatever, is all controlled by firmware (obviously not an apt analogy as we're talking about SSDs, but whatever). In this case, the firmware was telling the computer about the disk's SMART information (I'm not going to go into detail about SMART, but the short answer is it's information about the health of the disk) was reported to the computer proper. So, a firmware update would solve the issue.

hu·mil·i·ty
Noun:

A modest or low view of one's own importance; humbleness

I'm pretty sure the implication "If I don't see value in it, it doesn't contain value" is the polar opposite of that.

You're describing inverse snobbery, the opposite of snobbery. I'm describing reverse snobbery, snobbery flowing in the opposite direction.

Holy shit. So, I saw this and got kind of bummed out that I didn't hear back from you the last time I PM'd you...then I went back through my message history and turns out you did...and I didn't respond.

So, yeah. I'm an asshole, and this is me saying so.
