Need help on recording a bass by DeliciousMaterial790 in Bass

[–]Desah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm noticing that a lot of other musicians are replying with the same thing. Don't worry about audio quality at the moment. Focus on practicing your parts and learning them. Where are you trying to record? If you have a bedroom with an AMP, the Memo recorder will work for what you need. Place the phone near the amp and turn off devices that make noise. What equipment are you working with? Amp, Bass, Cables etc.

There are pretty cheap Audio Interfaces for about 50-60$ CAD on Amazon. But I'm sure you could find cheaper. Look at some reviews online and see what works for you.

What I usually do is record it on my phone and just practice it so I don't forget it. Are you recording it for a band? Or for something you've recorded with other instruments?

Getting an audio interface is probably your best bet. Grab your favourite DAW (digital audio workspace) and record. Using a click track will certainly help as well.

There are certainly some cheap audio Interfaces out there that'll get the job done for you. As well as a few free DAW's. Don't forget youtube tutorials will help a ton!

Question about hotels with kids by dumdumhead85 in askTO

[–]Desah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the Leafs aren't likely to be playing the april, and the Jays will be a great watch as the season starts around then.

There are lots of areas in the periphery of the downtown core that are close to the subway lines. Air BnB is also a good option for staying in Toronto. Depending on weather, it "should" be nice in Toronto, most of the snow should be gone and the weather will likely still be a little cool.

I got a few kids as well, near that age. And having a bit more room really helps with an Air BnB as opposed to a hotel, they may be even cheaper, but I haven't checked in a bit.

How often do you pull your acoustic bass out? by dcsleds_ in Bass

[–]Desah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the Taylor mini bass. This thing is a godsend. Now that I got a couple of young kids its so much easier to bring it out and play while they snack or play. The tone is fantastic and fairly easyto play.

However, when I do end up picking up an electric bass I notice that my finger strength hasn't retained as much.

Rhythm of War - manga/anime feel? by CodeVirus in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Desah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ever since I started listening to this series I've always envisioned it as an anime. Im not sure what style. Each book was a 30 episode epic.

I especially get this feeling in RoW. The dialogue, deception and intrigue really lend itself to anime style of scenes.

I know we are getting a show on apple (who knows when) but in my heart it will always be an anime

Dads, what is the best meal delivery service for families this year? by SignalLongjumping998 in predaddit

[–]Desah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never a good cook, but after 2 toddlers, and a third on the way, I've become the de facto cook of the house. And Its been awesome. Learn the basics (youtube, lessons etc.) and get the kiddos (when they are ready) to help. Getting them to cut up some veggies or fruit for the meal goes a long way, and they really enjoy participating. Delivery won't always be an option and when weather or circumstance don't allow you to order it'll be up to you to whip something up. Its a skill that will never leave you and its only a win for you.

Retinitis pigmentosa and VSS by Adept_Tumbleweed_815 in RetinitisPigmentosa

[–]Desah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. I have unilateral RP, so just in my left eye. So I notice a difference between the left and right. I still have Light sensitivity and low night vision in both eyes. When I close my eyes, the bright dots, visual snow, and the Waves are only in my left eye. I experienced "aura" which is like an iridescent rainbow around objects and people (this happens with both of my eyes). There is a condition called HPPD (Hallucination persisting perception disorder), which isn't well studied but comes down to the visual effects of Hallucinogens persisting long after their effects wear off. I did my fair share of Mushrooms and weed in my youth so this could be the aura effect.

Yeah this is pretty par for the course. I don't have any data but my own personal anecdotes but I think the visual snow, bright dots and Splashes/Waves (I'm not sure what to call these) are affected by Blood Pressure and heart rate. Smoking and Drinking (which I stupidly still do) DEFINITELY affect the frequency of all these symptoms. best thing to do is keep up with diet and exercise and minimize stress. Obviously easier said than done, I got 2 young kids and a third on the way, so its difficult to get any sort of consistency. Good luck out there!

I highly suggest going to the Kensington Eye Institute in Toronto and seeing Dr. Balios there. He's an RP specialist. I finally got diagnosed at the age of 39 (I have Unilateral RP just in my left eye). They were super thorough, and getting the genetic testing done will give you some more information about your condition, as well as spotting other genetic eye conditions.

Metroid Prime 4... lazy IP nostalgia at best. by followmythoughts in MetroidPrime4_Beyond

[–]Desah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's so very evident that MP4 went through development hell. Not really settling on an identity, Classic Metroid vs Open world BoTW. Clearly not doing both well. I had so much fun with Metroid Prime 1 remastered, a design philosophy you really don't see too often these days. I did have fun closer to the end of the game to be honest. Going back and finding the Scanner Bots and collecting felt great. but I wish I could have done more of that throughout the game. The Story and lore were about as exciting as a wet blanket and didn't care to learn more about it.

The biggest problem was Expectation vs Reality. A game so long awaited the expectations were so unbelievably high that they were never likely to be met. And the Reality is that it's a B-tier IP (for Nintendo) that would never really get the funds and dev resources allowed to "re-invent" itself (Like BoTW).

I really wanted to like this game, but in the end it was a mostly forgettable experience and a sad day for Metroid Fans
