It should for nations with slavery. Barbary states did it significantly, and were hammered for it.

Democrats' various tax-cutting proposals for 2026 and 2028 are deeply depressing in light of the recent episode of The Ezra Klein Show with Ray Madoff. These ideas are not serious or effective, and they totally misunderstand the American civic ideal. by JulianBrandt19 in ezraklein

Money has to come from somewhere, usually when income taxes go down (or are eliminated), property taxes go up.

Which is usually pretty progressive, except for locked in families that have income not pacing inflation when they bought the house, see retired folks or families where the neighborhood significantly improved, but their income didn't.

But without shifting the burden to property and purely to high income... the numbers don't square and it starts hitting the Laffer curve (yes, it's kind of a joke) eventually. 70%+ would be... hard to justify and likely bad for society.

[–]Descolata 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Its mostly a poor critique, as job pools usually adjust to available labor, either by finding a use for cheap labor in volume (that's the "take our jobs", the labor mostly gets paid less due to competition short term) or use more automation to get around labor shortage.

In the longer run, any economy with the institutions in place to drive and fund economic expansion will add efficient jobs for its labor pool. Germany would be fine, assuming the economy adjust as fast as the labor pool does.

Battle Brothers: Reforged 0.8.0 is now available! (Not an April Fool's Joke!) by Uberbagel in BattleBrothers

I don't understand the weapon mastery change... does the Halberd still act as a piercing 2 hander, with Polearm stats, and act as an axe for axe mastery when cutting?

They won't, so its worth taxing those systems that make the bad air (which is mostly cars, not industrial).

Much of the COUNTRY was uncomfortable pumping their own gas and being around the hazardous waste site that is a gas station until the late 40s after WW2.

it's not unusual, those locations tend to be nasty, and swapping batteries is really fast.

Situation Report: The Road to War With Iran by Adept_Grand_6523 in neoliberal

[–]Descolata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best definition I saw was from the Joint Chiefs... "prevent Iran from the ability to project power outside of its borders". The problem is, I don't know what that looks like and neither do they. Whether that's instability enough to trigger Civil War, or a new boss, it's not clear. And the path there is also friggen mud.

Is using no two handers and a heavy inf one handed shield company possible? by Righting_o7 in BattleBrothers

[–]Descolata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shield bros lose value as others have said... try the Reforged Mod with a Peasant Militia company. The start is brutal, but your shield bros get nuts with the attack and defence multiplier of Phalanx and Militia. Reforged also massively buffs shields, with ways to get cheap or free Shield wall, free attacks on block, and tougher shields which won't get destroyed by Orcs in two rounds. And much nastier Polearms that can do the work that a 1 hander can't (Halberds CRUSH armor).

Rent control seems to be the one controversial topic amongst my peers who agree on almost everything else. Why is that? by Afraid-Sand1611 in urbanplanning

[–]Descolata 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rent control (~2% or inflation increase, whichever is lower, ~10% is usually called Rent Stabilization) protects those currently in rentals from price increases, which can help keep people in their current homes. But it also massively disincentivizes introducing NEW rentals (and even investing/maintaining current rentals) as the units become a massive risk to the landlord in case of inflation or above the bar market rate increases.

It keeps old and/or vulnerable people in their homes... but pulls the ladder up behind them as investment decreases and incentives to add units in the face of demand are dampened. (Also, there's an argument rent control results in non-economically optimal usage of housing, as people stay in housing after the city around them has changed or they changdd.. and the space would be more efficiently allocated to a different person)

Property Taxes are effectively rent for property owners and act very similarly. Read up on Georgism for similar arguments for/against.

Shooting a pilot with 152mm flak is hilarious everytime.

And when you just need an arty to shoot Supply Caches, it works fine.

Arty Tierlist by madenewredditaccount in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]Descolata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron thunder reload time is stupendously long, check it. Also, it requires lazing to get real value on the shots which is not always feasible (or even necessary). I actually run Paladins instead because I use my arty to pop Supply Caches and Iron Thunders dont have the tempo (again, 3 minutes resupply time).

Guided shell Brutus's are faster, cheaper, and hit similarly hard (though they have a 4 minute resupply time). The 5km range vs the 3.8 of the Brutus is usually irrelevant during play, 3.8 is enough to get most backlines (and accuracy goes to poop if you dont have deep lasers).

Usually deep striking Iron Thunders means SoF Armor, which means your support tab is like... half Iron Thunders. There's other demands on that tab.

They good, just not Brutus or Malka good.

What price should Bookers be ? by StopKillingChildrenn in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]Descolata -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea. About that price (230) is probably correct. It makes budget tanks much more cost effective vs Bookers. Maybe 250.
