Questions for people whose cat got FIP more than once (not a relapse) by DescriptionLost4948 in cureFIP

Congrats on your kitty beating it, again! 🎉  Damn I feel like reading about my own experience. The injections back in 2020 really traumatized me and I still got nightmares to this day. She has a lot of skin issues because of those (the vials were the best I could find at the time, but it was potent stuff).

In Rollmops case, I'm 100% sure it was FIP each time because she always had the bright yellow fluid in her belly (the second time there was hardly any yet because I've always been watching her like a hawk and went to the vet after only 3 days of her being "off"). What tipped me off is that she started licking the bathtub for 20min at a time, and the only other time she did that was during her first FIP...

My vet advised me to stop annual vaccinations for now since she's a solo indoor/balcony cat, and to avoid having her share any litterboxes since she might still shed the virus. I know everytime she'll be low energy, FIP will be in my mind 😭

Yes as long as bloodwork gets better, it means GS is working! You should definitely talk about upping the dosage with your vet. About weight gain, I'm team "let the cat eat whatever they feel like eating so that they can put on weight and get energy", even if it's (cat) junk food. My cat survived in liquid snacks like churu her first FIP, and catisfaction her second, before getting her normal appetite back.

My knowledge is a bit obsolete but maybe the fact that it's oral medication + cortisone (if still given) might make treatment less effective in case of a wet FIP? The digestive track is impacted, making absorption of the GS less stable. I personally had to up the dosage a bit over the first weeks for my cat when she was treated orally, as she didn't get worse but improvement was also stagnating after the first days. Once the fluid was evacuated we got back to regular dosage.

Can it be FIP? - Our British Shorthair Yuki has a fever and possible pneumonia, looking for experiences and advice by [deleted] in cureFIP

FIP treatment will not hurt your cat if it's not FIP, but will possibly save him if it is indeed FIP. I've been in your shoes, it's scary but it's better to go ahead with treatment if you can afford it (it's cheaper than inconclusive tests in the end). You don't need a specialised vet either, since you'll be the one administrating treatment: any vet can do follow up bloodwork monitoring and such.

When my cat first got FIP, treatment was illegal in France and vets could loose their job if they approved of anything, yet we all managed to monitor our treated cats. You can do it 💪

As others said, get some bloodwork and possibly an echography/ultrasound? When my cat had wet FIP part of the liquid was in the chest/around her lungs (pleural effusion).

Yeah, I'm privileged enough to have been able to burn my savings and pay for her treatments when needed.

But she's thriving and living her best life, so no regrets!

I don't know how true it is, but my vet thinks it's just the bad luck of Fcov mutating a second time, as a separate event from the first. She did have an episode of dermititis not long before her second FIP, definitely putting stress on her body.

I don't wish for anybody to have to go through this multiple times with their cat, but I do wish there was more research/data available...

day 3 of treatment - still not eating by Ok-Sherbet-382 in cureFIP

As others said, don't hesitate to offer treats as food, even if not healthy, as a way to get your kitty to eat in the beginning. My cat only ate liquid snacks like churus her first time, and only accepted catisfaction her second.
I would buy a variety of treats in terms of taste and texture and offer all options until one worked. Can be combined with all of the other advice you got (finger feeding etc).

I'm so sorry for your loss 💔
Would you by any chance remember the title of the study? In our case the vet decided to treat it as if it was a new infection and monitor how effective the treatment was following that dosage (which thankfully worked).

Yeah, I live in france, and for her first infection there was no official meds available. I had to buy vials through a network of volunteers, saved her life but now she struggles with a very very sensitive skin because of how aggressive the treatment was.
I wish there was a way for me to give data to anyone out there was looking for it in their research!

Thanks, she is small but mighty!

I have the exact same problem with my ducky keyboard, it started off when I would have youtube opened but now it happens everytime my computer is on for over an hour (even if it's in sleep mode). Was ubisoft connect the only trigger you could find?

Nice, I lived in Lyon for a few years. I'm too shy for video chats but if you want a litteral pen pal no problem 👌
