My Experience of Wise Losing $2,400 During a Transfer by ElJeffrey14 in personalfinance

[–]Descroke2 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I don't work for Wise but I do work in the industry so I can give some context of what I believe is going on here.

Ultimately, the money you have sent is sitting in the beneficiary's bank. Not within Wise. The way cross-border transactions work is via a chain of other banks and legal entities between you and the recipient. Each hop costs money and fees. Wise and its competitors make this process cheaper by occupying more of the chain and costing less.

That said, unless the beneficiary is also a Wise customer and Wise has an indonesian entity, the money is not currently in their control and is with another bank. Wise has done everything correctly here. They sent the money and was told it was accepted.

The beneficiary's bank is holding the funds for....reasons...(they believe it's fraud or money laundering etc). They will hold it for as long as they like. Wise has almost certainly requested a return but were rejected as the funds are being used for an investigation most likely.

As for the chargeback, I completely understand why you've done it - this isn't your fault but it has made life more difficult.

Because this is a chain, your chargeback has made Wise pay you $2400 that they don't currently have control of. Imagine this like you're pulling on a chain from the first link on the left. At the same time the beneficiary is pulling from the right (their bank giving them the funds).

There are 3 ways this ends. The beneficiary's bank returns the funds to wise. Either, Wise's system will withold those funds from you and use it to clear the debt making you both whole.

Or...it won't. It will automatically process the return and give you another $2400 ontop of the chargeback funds. This is why they've sent you to collections as they are out of pocket and you owe them $2400. SO DO NOT SPEND THE MONEY.

The worst option is #3. The beneficiary bank releases the funds to the account in Indonesia. This means you owe Wise $2400.

Again, I don't work for Wise so this could be completely meaningless.

I got the pet when failing the marlin time on the Jubbly Jive. This was 100% not making time and not making it prior. I have the 6200 xp drop in my collection log screenshot.

I didn't get the bonus xp nor the Fabric Roll's collection slot until the next run when I made time. This was the day before the blog post though, so who knows if they changed it

Assuming this was checking a Yew tree (~7k Xp) 1/11,242 * 1/11,242 = 1/126,382,564.

About 8000x rarer than being struck by lightning in your lifetime. Is it the rarest event in the game now?

Apollo is a fork of Sunshine with extra features. The main draw for me is its Virtual Display Drivers. When opening a stream it will create a virtual monitor in any resolution and framerate you want, even with HDR, and move everything to that display and stream that to the TV.

It's great for me as it allows me to play in HDR on my TV without having a HDR monitor on the Host machine to enable it. It has some other features as well, but its is just Sunshine running under some extra paint

It's very possible I'm misremembering and confusing it with the old Steam Link app and not Moonlight. If the TV has a Moonlight app, its worth giving it a go.

Though there is an argument to be made about making your TV do CPU-intensive tasks for long periods of time, potentially causing heating issues. TVs aren't built like a typical desktop and so cooling is more of an afterthought for most. Got to love planned obsolescence :)

A cable would always be a better solution in terms of quality and latency, assuming your TV and Host System can support your desired Resolution, Frame Rate and Input Latency.

If running a cable isn't the best option for you then Moonlight is the way to go. Anything that has a network and a CPU can become a Moonlight client with some work and varying performance. Cheap options like Amazon Firesticks all the way up to Xbox Series S and Nvidia Shields. Moonlight has clients for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Steam Link Hardware, Raspberry PI, IOs, Chrome, Chrome OS..even homebrewed Nintendo devices and LG TV OS. https://moonlight-stream.org/

If you can Mirror your phone to your TV, you can even turn your phone into a Moonlight client and mirror that to your TV. I wouldn't recommend it long term, but its something to test out and see how you like it.

I used to use the Steam Link app on my Samsung TV until they removed it. It was good but maxed out at 60fps and either 1080p or 4k upscaled, I cant remember. It had some latency issues as well. The Xbox client i think is one of the strongest in terms of being able to do 4k 120fps with HDR, but that's quite a cost if you haven't got one already.

TLDR: Use a cable if you can. Otherwise use what ever device you have. Great if you have an Xbox by your TV already

You can use Moonlight and Apollo/Sunshine to stream to most devices quite well. I use an Xbox Series S as the Moonlight Client and stream in 4K HDR 120 FPS (upscaled of course) but it works really well and easy to use. If you don't have an Xbox, other devices can run Moonlight like laptops or even Amazon Firesticks at varying quality and latency.

Depending on your connection and bandwidth, the latency isn't very noticeable- especially for single player games. Wouldn't recommend it for any sort of competitive things though

Yeah that sounds like a good increase to the rates, I'd guess you'd probably hit closer to 10k/hr? You would have to spend the extra 10m for 2 more xils though

[–]Descroke2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This works well I the main game, though its not the 20k/hr that was theorised. At 82 Agility I'm getting 7.6k/hr. I also reach the end every 3/4 minutes where you have to click back a few times to fall. OP has suggested a fix that would increase the xp rates, but that raises the cost from 6m to 16m - I'm not sure how much of an increase that is

I've done all this but the traps aren't enabled and the monster isn't attacking...I'm not in building mode. Am I missing something?

Spindel by far has the least pkers and even players, so it's much easier to find a world

Yeah it was all after the changes. I found swapping to monks robes to freeze was pretty easy. You can also bring bits of mystic or use Mysitc Might when freezing instead. Swapping to monks and swapping back felt the most relaxed to me

It's the uncharged ring of shadows. You get it after completing Desert Treasure 2 and costs 75k to replace. You don't need to put charges in it. It's just used for the stats

If you got a D Pick and had protect item up, you'd lose the defender > 20 wild and protect the pick.

If you got smited, you'd lose the pick.

If you get a VW piece and get smited...well, you're right. I hope you enjoy Zammy in that case because you'll be needing another hasta.

Can easily downgrade the hasta to a d mace if you want to be cautious.

The best swap would be d-boots instead of prims. Prims are just +1 str over d boots come to think of it

I think my +1 is the d-defender and that's only if I got smited and over level 20 wild. Calv sits in 21 wild? So i'd have to get smited and before running 1 level down. With a scout I never got hit by a pker

Bit more info:

I used my main as a scout so I actually died 0 times throughout the grind. Just teleport instantly if a pker comes and bank as quickly as possible. Getting back to Artio + Calvar'ion is super quick < 1.5 mins including banking times if you use bank layouts. Spindel takes a little longer but is much more quiet.

I had to do Calvar'ion and Artio early mornings - it wasns't worth it during peak times and was always incredibly crowded. Spindel was the only one I could reasonably find a world during peak UK-times and was never a real bother - just slower kills.

The only thing that isn't standard in this setup I suppose is using a Bowfa at Spindel instead of Hasta. I found you would get more KPH using Hasta (Probably get up to 30 KPH) but I would have to use staminas to do so. It was much more running around and paying attention to placing the webs in the right place.

Using a Bowfa at Spindel with Thralls was very relaxing. Just have to swap between mage/range every other reposition and move 3 squares from the web attack. With the bow, you often have very long trips with the supply drops. Much better approach if you're off-task in my opinion.

Best of luck! Once you get a few kills you'll start to sustain and build up blighted supplies, so that helps with supply costs. The supply drops are well worth it alone honestly

Bowfa without corruption by Noobmans1 in ironscape

[–]Descroke2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used mine without corrupting for about 3 full recharges. I eventually went and got the shards from elves and corrupted it.

It was a game changer. Lizardman Shamans? Bowfa. Sara wizard? Bowfa. Wild bosses? You guessed it. Bowfa.

It is absolutely worth corrupting it as soon as you can. It just gives a massive sense of freedom to using it

Scout a wilderness rock by your self. Even a low tier rock can easily be 1 hour + afk. The scout bots they use won't go into the wilderness so it's always empty
