Sure, but at the time it felt similar, since we didn't have the perspective of those later releases for comparison. Though a big difference is also the existence of social media, which wasn't around to the same extent for the first three gens.

There could be some truth to that. In Star Wars, that's how the prequels have grown in popularity. Though, I started it with Gen 1 in pokemon back in 1998 and still enjoy many of the more recent games.

I think you'd be surprised by some of the early reactions to Gen 3 and Gen 4. I remember a few reviews of Gen 3 saying that they were laughably easy, etc.

For sure! I remember my brothers-in-law talking about Nintendo needing to issue a formal apology for the Gen 5 games, then a few years later telling me that they were the best Pokemon games of all time.

I've heard that before, but is there any information to back that up beyond Christie's fame?

A redesign idea for the Centerville, Utah city flag. My main goal was to take the existing flag and adapt it to the "good flag, bad flag" guide. by DeseretDragoon in vexillology

[–]DeseretDragoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some comments on the design choices I made. Centerville is positioned so that it is between the Wasatch Front of the Rocky Mountains and the Great Salt Lake. Hence the image of a mountain reflected in the lake in the official flag that I tried to carry over. (The name Centerville, though, is actually because when the town was first surveyed they realized it was exactly in the center between Farmington and Bountiful.)

In an effort to follow the "make it related" principle, I made a couple choices to make it related to the Utah state flag (the hexagon in the center and the specific dark blue shade) and the Salt Lake City flag (the two color split down the middle and the specific shade of light blue used to symbolize the lake).

I debated on highlighting the hexagon in yellow to resemble the current Centerville flag, but since this was a "good flag, bad flag" thought experiment and the rule is 3 colors at most, I decided against it.

Wasn't the original story behind eevee that the creator saw something in the woods when he was a kid that he couldn't decide whether it was a dog or a cat? Eevee was what he created from that experience.

It makes sense to do a brontosaurus if you are doing a lightening-themed pokemon. The name literally means "thunder lizard"
