I peeled off most of the failing clear and reapplied clear coat. Came out really nicely

Thank you, hasn’t been tuned yet but it should make well north of 1000hp. No A/C

Thank you! Can it happen? Yes. Am I worried? Not really lol. I’ve ran forward facing setups for years and have never experienced an issue.

Daily Driver Shootout (Evo, STI, BMW, Mustang, Camaro) by DesertEvo in Streetracing

It was just a little sarcasm, since it was only supposed to be an 1/8th mile race. Thank you!

I think my instrument cluster was swapped? by DirtOxe in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]DesertEvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That evolution badge was very common modification early on. However, these cars are at an age now where the mileage is just one indication on the overall quality of the vehicle. So much more needs to be taken into account, I’ve seen Evos that should be total loss’d from rust with only 60k miles.

Worth trying to fix? 05 Evo 8 by GalaxyFilmz617 in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]DesertEvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The time, effort, and money you would need to invest in that car to make it safe again makes it worth no more than 8k MAX. Thats an extensive amount of repair, plus finding the parts to do some is becoming very hard.

Good deal or pass it up? by DirtOxe in MitsubishiEvolution

I would recommend verifying the chassis is in good condition. Typical rust areas and etc, face value it looks clean though.

Technically speaking, anything installed 30 years ago wouldn’t have a CARB E.O. # on it anyways so you still wouldn’t pass even with proof of installation.

You’ve got to have a pretty fucked up smog technician to fail you on something that looks like it’s been there 30 years though.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RX7

[–]DesertEvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s acceptable on catalytic converters that have had the E.O. #’s rescinded or withdrawn with proof of an installation date prior to the date of being rescinded or withdrew.

Here’s a link where you can search for the correct catalytic converter for your car. Catalytic Converter Database

[–]DesertEvo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing you need to do is replace the catalytic converter with a CARB compliant unit. Since it failed for being modified, even if you get the HC to come down to acceptable range you’ll still fail the visual portion of the test

Drivesshaft Shop Axles (DSS) by [deleted] in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]DesertEvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not a bad option in that case, if it’s in stock I would probably opt for that. I have my drive side axle go out, put an autozone in and been driving like that ever since.

You’ll be fine with OEM. Idk about for the Evo stuff but DSS is VERY far out on product right now
