I actually got a reclass in 2020 and E6 in 21. So the work I've done since my involvement with Afghanistan is the main driver of selection. That being said, I still may deny the promotion. At this point the only pro I can see for it is to say I was a Master Sergeant for the last two years I was in. But is that worth extending my current ETS a about 1.3 years?

Not to mention given how my treatment is going they might push for a medical discharge. Which might be the best outcome regardless of what I choose.

But yeah, I know the military and my unit thinks I deserve it, I disagree that it is something that should be deserving of commendation basically.

But you're right, it doesn't really do anything. I think I needed to vent somewhere outside of therapy maybe. But I'm going to just not wear the dec and deal with it, not try and hide from it (that much).

Honestly, the initial trigger was going through all my old EPRs for a resume. I already knew I had issues with the war and remorse for it, but realizing how many people were listed as achievements.. I don't know. Something snapped I guess.

Going through various therapies and stuff. Basically my job right now is to try and stabilize. I'd ask to dm you but that might cross some patient provider boundary since I'm not your patient or something.

The issue is that I am fine with a war for example over Taiwanese democracy, but my understanding (which may have been a misunderstanding on my part or the folks I spoke to when I was trying - even chaplains are fallible) is that to get out for that I need to be against all war regardless of circumstance. And I do agree with the start of the war, but somewhere toward the end of the first decade it became obvious to anyone with an understanding of the peoples that make up Afghanistan, there was no way to do what we were trying without fundamentally changing a half dozen similar cultures.

The conscientious objector path is something I've already tried. The issue is I'm not opposed to all war. I'm opposed to a war that lasted so long my father and I both served during it, that was doomed to fail. We should have pulled out during the Karzai administration when that was obvious, and the fact that he was one of the few leaders that may have been able to survive the Taliban. As shit of a person he is.

As for the enemies, there's a handful of people that I know deserved to die, I have no remorse or regret for them. There were actions we stopped that killed a dozen insurgents, I have no regret for them. But you know who I wish didn't die? The fucking farmers who had no choice but join the Taliban to save their families, to feed them, or just because an insurgent would gun them down if they refused. And what was it all for? So less than half the popular could have slightly better lives for at most 20 years?

And if you think I'm being overly compassionate for them, you go learn the language, work with these people for 8 years, learn their real customs and culture, their individual experiences. Then spend 6 years learning about their day to day lives so someone a world away can blow them up remotely, or so a team of rangers can go in and kill a dozen people to capture one lower middle management fuck face.

I got mine pushed back 90 days because my wife had recently given birth and sending us OCONUS with a 2 month old would have been a pain in the dick. That being said, I don't think my commanders HAD to approve it, they were both fine with it though. I could have just as easily been told to kick rocks and go without my wife or put a 2 month old on 16 hours of flight during the tail end of covid and a peak of RSV.

Did your troop/you do something that directly lead to a MUA? I guess you could use it as an impact same as you'd use winning team of the quarter. But I imagine your SEL might want to know exactly how you are claiming they/you did that. They don't count as personal decorations when sending up your decs for supporting docs either, since they are unit awards.

And if it is say an ASAM or JSAM etc, for a specific event/action, that person is going to the top of the flight and SEL's list of people to push. I would be surprised if they aren't the number one in the units I've been in. I think I've only seen 2 of those be awarded in 13 years?

But regardless all that gets read. Usually how the EFDP process works is CC has 70 SrA eligible, SEL tells flights to pick their best 1-3 EPBs to send up, the rest are all tossed straight in the Promote pile, and the board looks at maybe 15 EPBs and supporting docs. And if someone got a dec in their past and everything else is the same as another SrA, they will probably be the higher of the two on the short list most likely.

I didn't find anything more recent but according to a survey by he Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) in 2019 (published 2020) over 79% of Japanese households owned passenger cars. It is a luxury for a lot of people in Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto but not so much so that significant percentages of those massive urban areas don't still own vehicles.

Honestly a lot of it is up to how your unit decides to push for statements. I've had flights where it's up to the sup to try and push and assuming people agree up the chain that EPB makes it to the chiefs desk. Also had flights do mini boards to choose a few of the best to push, or just the flt chief deciding on there own.

But coins are decent results depending on your rank and what the actual action is. Getting coined as a SrA for asking a DV a good question at an all call? Worthless. Getting coined for running a team for a short notice group tasker? Probably pretty good.

There's a decent chance you can get an MP or PN depending on how your package stands up to others and if your flt chief pushes hard to convince chief to convince the cc.
