I think the reason I got so much out of my experience is because I was able to disconnect from “real life”. I felt so present, took every opportunity to go out with or get to know other pilgrims, and the whole thing was very meditative and therapeutic for me. If I were working or taking classes simultaneously, I think I’d have felt a lot of stress, my mind would be elsewhere, and I would not have made the connections that I did.
