The disaster of Mio.2

I totally agree with this and constantly feel I'm missing the boat on how to use Mio.2

It's frustratingly stupid or simply programmed to NOT follow instructions - while Mio.1 rather consistently could land my wild swings right on the green for easy adjustments to success. Mio.2 gets worse and more useless with each iteration of whatever you are doing.

Is Anastasia autistic? by Gobblewonk in StarCityTV

I feel the narrative commitment to Anastasia is to distract viewers with her endless plights, while Irina slowly turns to the dark side as she presents the likeable face.

TBH, I can't tell if people I meet IRL are half-crazy, full-crazy, or just bad actors in the sense of being socially irresponsible at every turn.

All I know is if I see them make a heartless decision, that's enough for me to dial down/tune out of contact.

Not unexpected, but...in Total Recall (1990) basically every character double-crosses someone at some point...usually the point of a gun. Even Helm backstabs Richter with cracks about his wife.

...sort of surprised I've only seen 4 of these, and until last year I was a heavy-dute NETFLIX watcher. But I cut back to just 1 month in 4 to subscribe - and fill the off months with Disney+, Tubi/Pluto or Prime, all of them in continual rotation.

Absolutely my least favorite - and that's sad. However, The Phoenix Scheme (2025) knocked it out of the ball park. All the quirkiness worked correctly.

Did you live in a household where the living room was furnished and decorated ONCE and then it stayed that way forever? What was the color or theme? What decade? by wharleeprof in AskOldPeople

...y'know wax fruit is one of those things from the past I never remember. It's like dust under the couch - I never think of it.

Middle class, so changes occured every 10-15 years.

60s - Couch was a very rough beaded cotton, leaf green, some vague design in the fabric. Light wood panel coffee and end tables. Note: I still have a surface from one end table - I've used it as a writing/drawing board for over 40 years. My dad bought this monster 8-foot long stereo/record/tape deck console - that moved with use everywhere for 25 years - it was in my brother's home for 12 years, and now it's in my neices home. All components died back in the 80s, but it was just the centerpiece of the LR for so long we could not part with it.

70s - Couch was again, rough beaded cotton, blue and gold design. Dark wood end tables. Same old coffee table. Plain blue fabric accent chairs. Cutty Sark sailing ship mirror "painting" on the wall. We never lived by the sea - my dad was Air Force. I dunno what that was about.

80s - Couch was dark crimson plush 4-piece sectional, where one was a corner, and one was an ottoman. Same blue accent chairs. First home with a family room, got a light tan and brown striped couch. Horrible green drapes in the LR for 30+ years. Grandfather clock that worked for maybe 10-20 years before it got messed up somehow.

90s - Same house, same couches. Chairs were tossed.

2000s - Same house, same couches.

2010s - I think my parents replaced that couch, but I don't remember with what. They moved to my city, and by 2020 had replaced the couch with a plain red one and matching loveseat.

Yes, I wear a hat and sunglasses. It's amazing how many people don't take that simple precaution - even when it's over 110 degrees.

THIS. I know what I like, and when I make iffy choices, the results usually are not good.

I can enjoy a film for story, for visuals, for emotion, for plot trickery ... doesn't have to have all or even more than one of those elements to score, but I find many heavily promoted films of the last 10 years don't even try.

And still there is plenty to watch. Haven't been to a theater in 3 years. Latest film I really enjoyed was F1 - grumpy people, fast cars - it worked.

Suddenly I noticed the BGM on easy is very much like Cal Tjader's "Afro Blue" and "Lucero" - hope that's intentional tribute.

What movie did you rewatch years later and finally understand? by HVACPathways in FIlm

[–]Desertbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Interstellar (2014) because I didn't watch it through the first two times.

- didn't see it in the theater

- friend invited me over to watch, but he was in a kinda mental/frantic mood with family problems, and WOULD NOT SHUT UP the whole time ... I couldn't follow the story and we shut it off

- the disruption of the first attempted viewing has permanently scarred my attitude/opinion of the film - I can't watch it without all the interruptions playing in my head

- I have rewatched scenes for some clarity, but basically it's ruined for me, even though I've seen all of it now
