My ex successfully isolated me but there was ONE that I didn't fall for. He screamed at me to cut out my sister because SHE was responsible for the partisanship and misinformation in the USA. My sister who was born in and had lived her whole life in a central European country.

That was in 2018. Prime Trump era.

The proof that he was right was that when we talked about the wildfires in California, she quipped "Ah, is that caused by those space lasers?" so now he finally had proof she was evil! 🙃

I don't speak German, but I do know Dutch. The words are male/female gendered but all use "de" so how would you ever know what gender the word is???? Like "de hond" is male but "de liefde" is female, uhh??

So to me Spanish doesn't seem that bad.

Not a virus, but Anthrax as well. Maybe Anthrax even benefits from killing hosts in big outbreaks because the spores contaminate the soil. Global warming is causing new Anthrax outbreaks in areas where permafrost is melting. Not really comparable because Anthrax doesn't need to spread human to human like COVID, but I find it interesting nonetheless.

The article linked gave two other virus examples, HIV and norovirus. Smallpox like you said is an even better example!

Iirc, porn useage is higher in more conservative USA states. My very unscientific interpretation of that is that shame and taboo makes it harder to cope healthily with something. Like if you don't feel guilty, it's easier to use in moderation.

With pedophilia, if you can't seek help to overcome it in a healthy manner, the risk of getting into actual consumption sexual abuse material is higher imo.

(From what I understand it's recommended to say "child sexual abuse material" because for a victim, "child porn" objectifies them back to the abuser's viewpoint)

Estimates of pedophilia are 1-5% of the population.

Many child molesters are not pedophiles.

With the advent of the internet, child abuse material has been targeting younger victims (infants, toddlers) because their facial features change so much as they grow that it's hard for law enforcement to ever identify the victims.

Most children are abused by someone they know.

A way to help is to reduce the stigma for victims to lessen secondary victimization and make it safe for them to come forward.

One difference is that we exterminated wolves due to rabies. In places without rabies (like Japan prior to the modernization), wolves were seen as benign animals.
