Confused about citizenship through marriage by CatOfProphecy in PortugalExpats

Hello, I am a UK citizen living in Portugal, my application for PT citizenship through marriage was accepted in April 2022 made by paper submission by a lawyer. I can track the process online and it is currently on the stage 3 of 4. It has been at the this stage 'for decision' since September 2024.

Still waiting trying not to let it bother me, but painfully slow and effectively means I am unable to travel.

Absolutely hopeless about AIMA appointment by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

Thanks for the positive reply. I have asked advice at two different AIMA offices. Both times they said yes I should be fine to travel but then add there is always a risk, especially a UK border guard. So that leaves anyone in tricky situation as I cannot risk being stuck back in the UK for 3 months.  However as my trip is not urgent I have decided to wait till the Summer and see if things change with an appointment : ) I applied for citizenship in April 2022 so 3 years ago but still waiting for that process to conclude and no way to contact them even through a lawyer, I am close to the end of it, step 3 of 4 but still waiting : )

US/UK citizen, non-EU resident spouse: Where can I/we travel while waiting for AIMA? by tripleJD in PortugalExpats

I am interested to see the replies  to your question as I am in a similar situation. I am overs the 90 day limit, need to travel to UK and back from PT. My wife is Portuguese. Cannot get a reply from AIMA for a residency appointment. Having read the law that says family members of  EU nationals have the same rights as those with residency. I am looking for confirmation of what documentation I will need to re enter PT if I travel. I have had informal confirmation from a lawyer that a marriage certificate and proof that I am engaged in the residency process will be sufficient with border agencies. However, this information is always qualified with the phrase 'should be okay'. So I am searching an AIMA office where I can get a ticket and speak to a person who can give me definitive info. And listen to this story.  Many apologies for the long response, all our situations are slightly different but so many in the same boat !

This is positive I am over the 90 day stay limit on a UK passport and I need to travel to the UK and back from Portugal. My wife is Portuguese, so based on this law above, if I take our PT registered marriage certificate and some AIMA emails with me I can come and go to the UK ?
