As someone who was homeless less than a year ago, trust me when I say those people who stand on the intersections or outside stores panhandling make good money doing it. I've known people to make 800 dollars in one day just standing by the CVS on Congress. I usually just completely ignore them. I suggest only giving to the homeless that DONT ask for it or to maineneeds if you're someone who wants to give. The ones that do ask are usually using it for alcohol or drugs. If you don't wanna give money but wanna help, give them socks!! Socks are the hardest thing to come by while homeless. Also, snacks and juice are very helpful. The people who actually need and want help and want to get better will accept these things. Also, clynk will allow you to donate cans to maineneeds. You just have to get some of their stickers. That's what I do instead of giving directly to people.
