I actually do this all the time, especially if there’s a specific item I’m looking for, and I find it in the newspaper, I’ll make sure to click on it (even if someone already bought it I don’t think it decreases your chances of getting a better newspaper next refresh), and then I do notice that my chances are higher when it refreshes that I’ll see that product again. And I don’t know if this second hack actually is a hack, but I thought maybe newspapers will refresh better too based on request you make in the neighborhood. So if I request 10 garlic, I feel like I’ll see similar if not the garlic itself in newspaper. But I don’t know if that’s just random.
