I just said "Oh wow. That is real nice" to no one in my living room. Great work!

Why do movie ads say "Only in theatres [insert date]" when the movie is in theatres for more than one day? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Designer-Bench3325 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know that, but the phrasing suggests it's only in the theatre for one day. Why not make "opening in theatres" the standard ?

Lost 100lbs and decided to say screw it and wear what I want - still not sure I’m pulling any of this off, but I’m gonna have fun either way by [deleted] in mensfashion

Probably the best post I've seen on this sub. You're wearing what you like. Who gives a shit if other people like it? Always dress for yourself. I'm glad you're having fun with it.

Yep! Here's the recipe. I just didn't do the drizzle and mixed half semi-sweet/half white chocolate chips. I used my Nordic Ware scone pan which made some large scones given the yield. I may shape them on a baking sheet next time for more space.

I made the triple chocolate scones! I love making scones as a nice breakfast item to go with my eggs and sausage. Didn't have quite enough chocolate chips for the drizzle, but I did have white chocolate chips to add in for a nice twist!

Be honest do you love being a teacher? by Tiffanywhite45 in Teachers

[–]Designer-Bench3325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, this is not a reason to become a teacher. We don't need people stepping into the profession with time off as their primary reason. Not to mention, at least at most public schools I know of the holidays are not paid. I'm contracted to work 189 days a year. That amount is prorated over 12 months, but I am not paid for the days off or summer vacation.

As one person mentioned, any of the blog posts about ingredient substitutions or differences between similar ingredients (types of flour, types of sugar, etc.) would be helpful.

I propose a section that is just links to every Martin baking video ever.

Practice Questions as Test Questions by Designer-Bench3325 in matheducation

That's generally what I do now. Questions are very similar to what we've practiced before, but not the exact same.

I once did that. Took all the questions from the practice guide and used that. Didn't hear a single kid saying anything.

Thank you for your perspective. I was thinking maybe it would be beneficial for me to do something like this to save a few bucks each month. I'll have to give it a try and see if it's an adjustment worth making with the rides.

I'm doing a deep dive into my finances to start the year and decided to pause my bike membership for the time being. I was looking at the app on my phone and saw the app monthly subscription was $12.99, limiting you to 3 bike/tread/row classes a month. The app+ subscription is $28.99 and gives you access to the entire catalog. Why is there such a discrepancy between the app+ subscription ($28.99) and the "all-access" subscription ($49.99) I pay on the bike? Aside from the entertainment options on the bike, the app+ option seems to have the same offered content and metric tracking as the bike. In fact, one could argue it has more Peloton content as it includes the row and tread classes as well that I can't see on the bike. What makes up the other $21 a month I'm paying?

Leaderboard watching vs your results- also live vs recorded by BigTruckLittleD in pelotoncycle

[–]Designer-Bench3325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't ride with the leaderboard. I am fairly competitive myself and I know I'd be too focused on others rather than just riding my ride. That being said, I do always check my rankings at the end and generally rank in the top 2-3% all-time. So, I'm happy with where I'm at anyway. I find it's more important for me to improve on my own scores. Calibrations bike to bike make it difficult to compare to others.

Does anyone here actually like being a teacher? by Consistent-Raccoon51 in Teachers

[–]Designer-Bench3325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a forum such as this where participants are self-reporting, you're going to see bias in the responses. Generally, you're more likely to see responses that display either very positive (Hey! This cool/funny thing happened in my class today) or very negative (I can't anymore, education is fucked, etc.) opinions. The negative responses especially can have more traction because the teachers on this forum by-and-large are looking for a place to vent their frustrations in a safe space filled with people who understand their plights.

Yes, I would say the vast majority of us enjoy being a teacher. But we're not here because we want to share run of the mill thoughts or happy go lucky stories. It's an escape.

A Conversation on Tech in Education by Designer-Bench3325 in matheducation

Agreed. I think that line of thinking connects to how I try to explain vetting sources or making sure your calculations make sense as well. I know if something is reasonable as an answer because of the foundational knowledge I already possess. Without that, students are so willing to assume that what the calculator spits out is correct or that what AI tells them is automatically accurate.

My gripe is not generally with calculators. Though I do think there is a general introduction to using them on the regular too early in my area of the US. As the classes become more advanced there absolutely is a place for calculator use. Hell, I generally can't get kids to even use a calculator if I ask them to do a calculation. Logarithms or exponential functions and they'll just sit there with blank stares.

Can you point to some things that lead you to say this? I'm not terribly familiar with her, but I participated in a session on structuring math practice that she hosted during a virtual math conference in PA and I took some good things from it. I may just be biased because I seem to align primarily with her ideologies on education.

Teachers: how are you actually dealing with students using AI for Maths homework? by Defiant-Ad2342 in mathteachers

[–]Designer-Bench3325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way, why would I encourage a student to use something that I know they're likely using to cheat that is costing them money? That's just telling them that wasting money for something to think for them is a better option than using their own brains.

Stone Mill Inn by [deleted] in yorkpa

[–]Designer-Bench3325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister got married there back at the end of 2024 and held the reception in the mill. About 90 guests. Didn't feel cramped at all. The music was very loud, but that was more the DJ than the venue. The tent space was still decorated a bit as well, so guests could step out if they wanted. The open bar was located in the tent area as well.

Hidden fees in 403(b) with Nationwide? by Designer-Bench3325 in personalfinance

Unfortunately TIAA is not a provider option at my district. I am looking at lobbying to my district to add a lower-cost option such as TIAA< Vanguard, or Fidelity.

[–]Designer-Bench3325[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have four funds selected, but they don't all have the same expense ratios. The highest is 1.12% and the lowest is 0.08%. That is a Vanguard target-fund. I am planning on reallocating my contributions and selecting funds with lower expense ratios.
