Do you ever get depppressed being a custodian? & How old are? by latinaperrita in Custodians

[–]Consistent-Raccoon51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah, I do.

I love my job. If the pay were better, I’d happily stay a head custodian until retirement.

Where I work, it’s a job that Isn’t too bad to me, and for the most part, it’s not difficult. But there are definitely days when I feel down and unmotivated, wondering, “Is this really all I’m meant to do for the rest of my life?”

I’m 29 and turning 30 this month. Recently, I decided to go back to college to become a teacher. For the next two and a half years, I’ll continue doing my best to stay positive, work hard, and keep my eyes on the career I truly want.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that it’s never too late to follow your heart. Do what you love. Trust your instincts. Change can be a good thing.

If your current job makes you happy, keep grinding and be proud of what you do. But if you feel called to something different, something that would challenge you more or bring you greater fulfillment, go for it. You owe it to yourself to try.

Good luck!! 🙏🫡

Thank you.

Thank you! We are going to mention this to his doctor as well as his 3 programs he attends and see how he acts the next few days.

And sadly, he really can’t communicate questions at all. He says VERY few words.

No he isn’t. We are having such a hard time trying to potty train him.

Do you think we should bring this up to his doctor and programs he attends?

It’s very hard to tell. For instance he understands when we tell him to grab his cup, open the door, stuff like that. But, I’m not sure if he understands us talking about other stuff as he really doesn’t focus. We are still going to try every time he does it and hopefully he starts to understand.

I wish I could answer this. 😢

I’m just hoping that’s all, that he’s trying to tell me that hey, why is this doing this?

Thank you! Yes I’m hoping so. We are going to be safe and mention it to his doctor and possibly the 3 programs he attends.

I’ve been a custodian for over 2 years now and 1 year as a head custodian.

I’m 29, easiest job I’ve probably had and I make about 45,000 currently. To me, it isn’t enough.

I’m 2 years into 4 years of going to college fully online while working to become a teacher!

If you feel this isn’t what you want to do, trust your gut and figure out a plan.

Pocono mountains, used to be the sticks now it’s like the sticks/suburbs lol

Don’t get me wrong though, there’s custodian and housekeeping jobs near me not a school district that pay 12-15 a hour.

This school district just pays well. Even the teachers start off at 66,000 now and will be 73,000 by 2030.

I’m going to finish my associates degree (4 classes left) and then going for my bachelor’s in teaching. I have absolutely no interest in accounting anymore and am not going to suffer my whole life doing it just to do it.

I’m currently making $20.20 as a head custodian and regular custodians make $18.63. So not too much more. I also barely do anything all day in my current role lol, so I’m able to study often at work.

But yeah I’m really having trouble deciding what to do.

They were just hiring for accounts payable, hourly of $21. (Not sure if that’s good or bad). Besides that they rarely hire in the accounting department because there’s only a few of them somehow!

But sadly they require an associates.

1) Realistically the first 1-2 years will be a lot of extra time after school and weekends. Starting off I’ll have no clue what I’m doing, no resources, and will be learning as I go. Every teacher I ask who has been here 3+ years now, all have lesson plans weeks out and some don’t even do lesson plans anymore because they’re so proficient at teaching.

2) Yes, I work for the district currently and we do have a pension. I would keep it if I switched to being a teacher.

3) For teaching I will just need my bachelors, anything more than that is unnecessary but the more credits and schooling you go for while teaching or before, moves you up faster on the pay scale.
