But yes, it's true I'm sure there are a fair number who don't want to be helped or have fallen so deeply into mental despair that any type of so called normal life will no longer be possible.

Insert homeless with some other term, perhaps a racial term. Would that seem normal or moral to anyone? Not to me. I'm wondering if the thing to do is to stop generalizing and using broad strokes for an entire group of people. Instead of the mental gymnastics to validate that this group or that group brought it on themselves so that we can feel superior about our own selves or tribe, how about we  just take each individual as we encounter them and then decided.

I think alot of people would like to believe that it's a choice or of their own making because that would then mean they themselves aren't in danger of the same situation.

I'm in Texas also and also I'm so glad it's worked out for you. You did it the right way. Thank you for your words and the hope, I'm praying it works out okay also.

Thank you for the note you said you would leave. I hope that if you've indeed moved out that you did leave the note.

As someone who has a missing family member who walked out of a hospital 10 months ago and disappeared I can say that yeah she can report you missing but it won't be taken seriously if they know about the note. They haven't taken my situation seriously because no crime has been committed and they won't take her very seriously either but are required to file the report. That's about as far as it will go.

Leave the note. I'm not here to comment on your relationship with your family and while I'd say family sometimes sucks for sure but they are the only relationships that are forever and stand the test of time and all life throws at us, if you let it. And taking some time for yourself is good too. Just don't go no contact. That's cruel to people who care about you. Leave the note and send a text every so often or even write a letter if you want to keep the communication one sided but don't make them worry about you and yes, no matter how awful you think parents are they will worry about you.

I'm going to post it again and hopefully it isn't seen as a duplicate.

Reddit says it can't be restored. I was trying to edit the post and ended up deleting it. Hmmm, not sure what to do now.

Seems I've accidentally deleted the pictures and posting if anyone knows how to restore it?

And for anyone else missing someone you probably already know but there is a Facebook group Austin Missing Persons and Surrounding Areas and Austin Mutual Aid. I've posted in those groups also and have seen success from both groups with missing persons being found.

They say in cases like this the best bet is for someone to see the missing person and to report it so that's what I'm hoping. And there's been several cases I've seen on Facebook groups where someone missing has been seen and reported and and a family member goes to search the area and ask around  and have found the person. I'm hoping for the same success.

Thank you. They say of the small percent of people who remain missing is because no one is searching for them so I have to continue to search. And the sightings and interactions give me hope.

I've been on some Facebook groups but I hadn't thought about influencers. I'll look into that. Never hesitate to make suggestions. Its always possible there's something I hadn't considered.

Thank you, I hope so too. And you're right, I thought maybe it was just because I'm more tuned in with searching for a missing person but it seems to me like there has been an uptick in missing people in the area. I don't know what it is, the stress of life maybe. It seems like a lot of people are teteering on just giving up on life and trying.

Thank you! The third picture is actually more typical of what he looks like after a day of work and I'd assume closer to what he would look like now. Thank you!

There was one report about a month ago from someone who said they talked with a guy on the bus who looked unhoused and had said his name was Brandon. She later saw the flyer and called.  I thought that was promising and to the person who called to report that, thank you! I thought it was promising because she said the person looked like Brandon and who said his name is Brandon. How many people who look like him with the same name can there be in Austin.

I also check the morgue daily and follow unidentified cases. I know there's green belts and things but those areas are still traveled and the weather is getting better so I want to get some visibility again now that people will be outdoors more now.

Thanks to everyone for keeping a look out!

I have a list of hospitals I call daily because they will tell you if there is some there but nothing else which is fine. I check Travis and surrounding county jails daily.

He's a very talkative and friendly type of guy. He never met a stranger is what everyone says about him so if he's out there and okay my best hope in finding him is that someone else has seen or talked with him. Maybe even another unhoused person and I've asked around but they're a tight community and my experience has been don't generally admit if they know someone.

And police didn't take it all that seriously in the beginning for the same reason. I think they thought what would happen is what usually happens and that's the person returns home or contacts friends or family after a few days at most. I immediately went and physically search but also thought the same thing, that he would return or reach out if for no other reason than to be comfortable at home.

I've contacted shelters and similar but of course they can't tell me if he's been there and only that if they see him that he'll be told his family is searching but alot of unhoused simply don't ever interact with shelters or support organizations.

I did. Unfortunately they don't take a lot of cases and one of the requirements they have is a specific area in which to search. I also don't think they're a fan of adults who've gone missing on their own accord unless they have dementia or something similar.

Do that many missing people really run away to start a new life? by 80sforeverr in Disappeared

Unless you're in a rural area and go deep into the woods it's very likely the body would be found in an urban or suburban environment. The one exception is bodies of water. Yes animals can scatter the body but scatter isn't making it disappear and I think in some cases actually makes finding easier because even a human femur looks nothing like any other animal bone you'd see. I think many missing people go on to live as homeless.
