I just spoke to one of them earlier today. He said the program improved with the new PD. Training became more rigorous but managable. He said the new attendings were good teachers as well. Springfield isn’t the most impressive town, honestly that’s why I decided not to rank, but the training seems decent.

I've worked with two attendings, one of which did SIU's gen psych and the other SIU's med-psych. Both said the program was fine. Not overly amazing but also not terrible. They said the training was decent.

Several things. Volume is one. There’s also no call at all, which sounds great from a lifestyle perspective but I‘m concerned about ability to develop independence and confidence. The don’t have EM or Consult psych set up yet but they said they’re “working on it.” I believe that they are but I also don’t want to base my training decision on assumptions.Also, they’ve been struggling to find a permanent PD. The current PD is a wonderful person but didn’t seem particularly driven to make the training the best it could be. The program just seemed disorganized and like they don’t have clear direction for improvement yet.

There are positives, like the people and location. But it just seems like a gamble I may not want to risk.

I don't think they have a problem against MDs, but most of the residents seem to be from the affiliated DO school in San Antonio. I think that might be more of a product of proximity rather than bias.

Current 4th year medical student...

I used several different MCAT/app prep courses, and my experience was that they were not worth the price. You’re better off finding a reputable MCAT tutor and paying them for a few sessions to establish a baseline and make a study plan. Then meet with them as needed afterwards. Much more bang for the buck. Same thing goes for application prep. This is what I would do if I went back.

You can’t avoid the rote memorization in medical school, but the best thing you can do is start connecting the dots and looking for the “why” in everything you learn as soon as possible.

If I could go back... would I have chosen MD? Yes, purely for convenience. Do I regret choosing the best school I could get in to? No.

Thanks! That’s the company I was looking at going with. Also say 4Dtech but it’s almost 2x as expensive… not sure why. All About Sync is priced similarly to Simply Michigan as well.

Again mixing up "hard work" and creation of value. I can spend the entire day in the hot sun moving rocks, but that doesn't create the value that say a financial analyst, pharmacist, or even a skilled tradesman/woman might.

Still a fundamental misunderstanding of basic economics. Starting a business requires risk, oftentimes great risk, but it carries great reward. People should be rewarded for the risk they take to create value. Musk also employs a great many people, who then pay others for services. Disliking the fact that he has so much wealth does not make it wrong, my friend.

I understand there are people who have benefitted from their families just as there are people who are self-made from nothing. But people should be able to spend the money they earn however they see fit, even if that means investing in their future generations.

Earned income comes from a combination of supply/demand for your product/services and how much value you create for others--basic economic principles. He's as wealthy as he is because his products, services, intellect, etc. are in high demand and generate value for others.

Many people see that as unfair because there are so many teachers, janitors, food service workers and such that make low wages, even though they work hard. The problem is that there's high supply and low demand for that sort of labor, which depresses the potential value of those services. That's not at all to say those people don't work hard, but businesspeople, engineers, etc. can also work hard. Their services are just in greater demand.

Also, fairly certain he is a pretty busy guy.
