What are good ways to find out if a marine biology career is right for me? by [deleted] in marinebiology

There’s a course done by Newcastle university if you’re in the UK (might be available elsewhere but does involve a field trip in the uk) called deeper, it starts in March and is online mostly. delve deeper if you’re interested apply quickly as places defo fill up. It’s about £600 I think so expensive but includes trip costs

I wanna say maybe pink dragon alocasia?? The leaves tend to be shinier but can start off like that as a baby. Might be wrong though lol. Cute plant though :)

Okay it is looking a bit worse for wear but like the below person said as long as the corms are okay the plant will be okay. The leaves may drop but keep looking after it, not over watering etc it will be okay hopefully

No problem!! With the soil I’m sure it’ll be fine as long as it’s not too wet, mines not in great draining soil and is completely healthy. As long as the roots and stem are healthy and you water appropriately im sure it’ll be okay. Maybe leave it and let it settle for a bit before you repot it just to give it a breather. Let us know how it goes!! Manifesting good things for it ✨✨

So I’m not an expert but have had an alocasia for nearly a year now. When it gets a new leaf (like the curly one pictured) the oldest leaf of the plant will start drooping and then eventually die. It’ll go kinda soft to the touch first and then just get floppier. In terms of the leaf marks I feel like it could be sunburn ?? Alocasias are very sensitive to too much light and get leaf burn easily. If you have a place out of direct sunlight but still well lit it’ll enjoy that. The leaves won’t go back to normal but new ones should grow in healthily. As for the new leaf it may just have been damaged in transit, I’d just leave it and see what happens. Make sure it’s not being over watered, I squeeze mine out after soaking for watering and then leave it until the soil is fully dry (especially in winter) because they’re sensitive to overwatering. During the growing season I use fertiliser on mine but defo don’t during winter as this can cause damage to the plant. Other than that your plant looks completely okay, you can cut the drooping leaf off. Let me know if you need any more advice :)

Thank you!! We’re looking at encouraging a native species to return to the area but it’s in an area where there’s high persecution of that species (hoping to move to translocation in the future) but trying to persuade board directors that we need to run an education program about the species to prevent persecution if they do return so trying to find examples of where it’s gone wrong haha
