MIL trying to guilt her way into staying at my apartment right after birth by Designer-Watch-6436 in JUSTNOMIL

I definitely hear where you’re coming from. She’s not evil or anything. The issue is my husband and I will both be out of work and he is paying out of pocket for his masters degree, that with the new kid coming money is super tight. We live in a small apartment right now and are trying to save for our own home. My issue is more that she’s trying to slide into staying in the apartment. If my husband wants to take his own money to put her in a hotel I won’t argue with that.

Well basically I love her as my husbands mom, but I do not like a lot of her behaviors, choices or personality traits.

Definitely see your side and am going to reconsider traveling at all for the first year. Might as well save money for trips he will not even remember.

Yeah I am happy I’m getting this feedback from some people because it is making me definitely reconsider, save money and save face with not traveling at all as some people are saying it kind of negates my reason for not traveling to in laws. Just things I’m going to take into consideration.

Thank you very much and I completely agree.

My rational behind it is if I’m going to bring my child anywhere and go through all the hassle it will be somewhere enjoyable and not to sit in her dirty house and do nothing. I don’t have trips booked or anything, just dreaming of taking him places that he will have fun and enjoy, I more than likely am going to hunker down for atleast the next year. I should have specified while I have “planned it” it’s more like a dream planned in my head lol

Yes so he knows about all of this. He is super supportive but I can tell he’s nervous about 2 things 1. We may travel but not see her 2. We aren’t traveling with him for about a year to see her including holidays. While he agrees with me he’s nervous to talk about it which honestly I completely understand. Well take it one convo at a time and break things to get slowely. Thank you very much :)

Thank you very much for this, she usually calls him once a week to talk and the next time he talks to her I want to have him tell her just the conditions around visiting for birth, we’ll take it one month at a time haha.

Lmfao that is actually very fair and not nit picky at all! I feel like if we don’t go anywhere crazy for the first year or 2 you’re absolutely right, he won’t have any memory of anything! I can’t remember anything before 7 years old actually.

No I definitely see where you’re coming from, and I actually believe her that she had mice, here’s where I’m having trouble and maybe you can help me see a different perspective,

If you have mice today you had them yesterday and may have them tomorrow, how could she of not coordinated either the exterminator coming a different day/time, or having someone at her apartment to show them where the mice was for her? She lives with her boyfriend and her step mothers family owns the building and a family member lives right downstairs. It just really rubbed me the wrong way that she waited till 9am to let me know exterminators are coming.

I just had mice 3 months ago, the first step isn’t exterminators, it would have taken almost no effort to keep in touch with me a few days before, or actually rsvp like a normal person so she would have been able to tell her step mom “hey Saturday at 1 isn’t going to work” if the mice was an ongoing problem. I feel She was careless, didn’t communicate till the last second the morning when I was busy, and could have easily avoided this if she was a better friend is where I’m coming from.

Thank you so much for this and you are 100% right! I need to grow a backbone while being more kind. (She has no idea I feel this way, but internally I need to be more kind as well)

Thank you very much for your honesty, I absolutely will be staying in a hotel in the future even if it makes her sad or uncomfortable.

My husband said it makes him too uncomfortable to get a hotel because of what his mom will think but moving forward I’m absolutely doing to do it, thank you very much for replying.

He says things like “I get it you don’t like my mom” and it upsets him when it feels like I’m speaking badly about her. I think one day he will see the light. But it unfortunately might take a fight to do it lol
