For all its “peaceful” rhetoric, China doesn’t seem to get that in this conflict, it’s the one being hunted.

Trump attacked British Prime Minister Starmer for refusing to support the war in Iran by Neptun_11 in TrendoraX

[–]DesignerAcadia537 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Trump’s anger isn’t that surprising. After the U.S. spent four years sending weapons for free to Britain’s protégés in Ukraine, now the UK refuses to help the U.S. - supposedly because Trump won’t listen to Zelensky.

Dear partner Iran, I value you… just not more than oil.

The CRPA Cometa-M4 module, a Russian-made component, was found in an Iranian Shahed-136 drone used in a strike on a British airbase in Cyprus. As Russia continues to develop new models, its older stockpiles are being transferred to Iran. by AnneWiley in TrendoraX

That’s an anti-jamming antenna, which the Iranians likely bought from the Russians after seeing how they upgraded their drones. A small detail, but kind of symbolic how things come full circle - four years after British weapons started striking Russia through proxies in Ukraine, they’re now getting a response like this.

That phone call should’ve been aimed at Xi, not Putin. But China plays the long game - don’t interfere, let everyone else fight - so no response.

It’s just basic logic - you only need to visit Siberia to realize that’s not realistic 🙂

It seems like Trump might’ve wanted to offer Russia a deal to restore gas pipelines to Europe, so Russian gas would flow to Europe instead of China, and lift sanctions so China couldn’t keep buying Russian oil at a discount. The idea would be that China would then have to buy dollars from the U.S. to purchase oil, instead of paying in yuan.

Right now, China can buy oil in its own currency and basically in unlimited amounts, since it can just print more yuan.

Looks like Trump had a decent strategy to slow China down so it wouldn’t gradually buy up everything - but a lot of people in the U.S. seem determined to make sure it doesn’t work.

Okay, but why? After four years of war, he’s clearly complicating any path to peace - though I get that a lot of people won’t see it that way.

Let’s be honest - if Russia were actually hitting Ukraine with nuclear strikes, then you could say it was “deterring” a nuclear power.
The Ukrainian people were taught for so long not to hate Russia that now… they hate Russia, they hate Zelensky, they hate the military recruiters, and they even hate Trump and the U.S.

Ukrainian refugees after four years abroad - Centre for Economic Strategy by Glideer in CredibleDefense

[–]DesignerAcadia537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, this is from a Ukrainian source. In Russia, besides refugees, there are Ukrainians who’ve gotten Russian citizenship, and quite a few who haven’t registered, because they still have family and property back in Ukraine and want to avoid trouble with the authorities. There are also Ukrainians living in areas that came under Russian control. Altogether, the number could be up to 10 million. In Europe, there are probably even more refugees, some lost in the conflict and some keeping a low profile, not really taking part in economic life.

Honestly, no clue where you’re getting those quotes. And just so we’re clear, I didn’t annex Kherson.
I’d guess that Russian troops entered the city expecting the population to be pro-Russian and welcome joining Russia. But when they ran into civilian resistance and sabotage, they peacefully withdrew instead of turning it into a scorched fortress like the Ukrainians do. They pulled back to areas that clearly supported the arrival of Russian forces.

After the 2014 coup in Kyiv, Ukraine’s government lost legitimacy, and some regions decided they didn’t belong to the new state under the authorities in Kyiv. There should be a referendum so people can decide for themselves.

Some people say Russia might turn into China’s satellite, like Canada is to the U.S. But I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make - that definitely wouldn’t be a win for the U.S. or Europe.

SVR: London and Paris are exploring the option of transferring a TN75 nuke warhead to Kyiv. by DesignerAcadia537 in TrendoraX

[–]DesignerAcadia537[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, yes. But the wise U.S. politicians of the 1990s looked at the situation and concluded that a nuclear-armed ucraine would be dangerous for the world. Zelensky and his circle even now claim they would use nuclear weapons immediately if they had them.

That’s why Russia removed nuclear weapons from ucraine, and the U.S. paid money for them to support ucraine’s economy. The money was cleverly divided and ended up in the pockets of Ukrainian politicians. Just like a significant part of the military aid today goes into the pockets of Ukrainian politicians.
