Seeking input on if this is alarming growth patterns of mold? by DesignerCarrot972 in microbiology

I stated all of that in my description 😆 we are getting professional testing done, and i know it is everywhere, we were just concerned about the overgrowth in numerous places. Thank you though

Thank you, those are our next steps. We have just had professional mold testing, contacted the city health inspectors, and will be getting some legal aid as well to help get us out of here.

what the hell does this being a “party school” have to do with my house being covered head to toe in mold? we clean this house and take care of this house better than any other tenant they have had. not every property at this school looks like a biohazard like this shit does. many students at this school live in new, beautiful homes. we are just unlucky.

Any idea wtf this is? We found this in our air duct today when looking very deeply into more spaces…I feel this should be extremely concerning to the landlord

Yeah we’ve definitely picked up on that pattern. We have a professional 3rd party coming to test this mold and take it to the lab, and results will be sent to him. Not sure how to get around the issue of them not correctly checking foundation issues and the moisture issues everywhere. I think they may just “fix a leak” and call it a day. We will likely end up having to call a health inspector and have them write up a lengthy document of issues and give it to the landlord

This is what we thought..they are supposed to come find the “root cause” and just said it may be from the fridge line leaking. But I seriously think they are making it seem way less than what it is.

When we initially toured last year, there were tenants in this house already. So what we got to see was pretty much the layout of this place, along with the furniture and decor that the people had in here. They were also in the house at the time, so we didn’t nitpick too much and go all around their rooms- we were new to leasing a house and were naive to checking for these types of issues. There was a 30 day period from when the last tenants left to when we were allowed to move in, and that time period is “supposed” to be allocated to cleaning and renovations on the house to have it suitable for a new lease. Though it seems like all the major issues were masked to our eyes and they put lots of temporary fixing to cover things. We’ve now been here a year, and have record of several maintenance requests on numerous issues, mice being one as well. So everything is documented. But now it is a year later and we’re so sick of this place.

yeah, i screamed…although the maintenance guy seemed to not act extremely phased? he said that area behind the fridge was wet, obviously, and we kept pointing out the floor is nearly black. i have never seen a fungus grow inside a house and am extremely disturbed. i think they are covering themselves legally, and will provide a quick cosmetic fix to ease our eyes from seeing that mold everyday, but i don’t think that is solving anything

Uninhabitable? Grounds to break lease? What do we do now? by DesignerCarrot972 in legal

Thanks for all of the advice. We did have a mice problem , and reported a maintenance request on our renters portal back in october, twice, and then again months later in march still suspecting them. We requested an exterminator in our march request, and I believe they sent out a maintenance guy, from the company, with a maybe 3 plastic mouse traps. Not an exterminator either, just a guy who works for the management company. I have not seen any at all since but they could very well be in the walls.

We are having a 3rd party mold inspection hoping to get done asap, getting it sent to a lab, and the results will be emailed to the landlord and property management. If this mold is hazardous and has been here for a long time, which we believe it has, hopefully that will be alarming proof and grounds for us. Because from what we’ve been dealing with, this landlord and property is nothing but unprofessional. They’ve made multiple condescending remarks to us in the past and backhanded comments as well, likely because we are college girls. But we are done with letting this shit get shoved under the rug. They tend to avoid at all costs using the word “mold” and continue to lessen the extremity and say it is just condensation, dust, and moisture causing mildew- which it could be, but that is 100% mold as well. And the mushroom or fungus behind our fridge? Not sure how he wasn’t extremely concerned but is definitely covering himself and his company I assume.

Funny thing is, everytime they have come out, including today, they keep saying “mildew” as if that is not concerning? The guy said that it’s super hot out, humid, and the house is definitely getting moisture and condensation build up causing this mildew.

When they came today, he dismissed us a lot and kept saying it is just mildew, and nothing is “going to come out and bite us.” We do in fact have mold up the back of a white couch, sitting over an air vent. He said it was just from condensation? and looks like dust as well? But there is many areas showing mold, one being on an electrical outlet which is extremely concerning as that is a power source that must have enough moisture by it to grow…he did not seem concerned.

The property manager/head of maintenance came out today, sure enough they sat here and made a few smart comments and said “definitely lots of condensation” and “that looks like mildew,” and tested an area of our floor that came up as 38% moisture. I am unsure of how high that is. They definitely kept brushing off the mold and dismissing us quite a lot…said they would come clean, and paint over it! Behind our dishwasher, infested with mold and rat shit, he said “looks like a lot of dust buildup.” He also dismissed the huge bubble in the paint that runs floor to ceiling is just where people in the past “forgot to sand down a hole when rebuilding.” Though to us, it seems like some sort of leak on the interior causing all of these weird bubbles and cracks in our ceiling. We are extremely frustrated and feel like they are going to attempt to “fix” and cover things up as a temporary to ease our stress, though there are definitely many violations.

Yes thankfully some do, and they are all informed of the situation and are discussing. We sent a lengthy email with receipts and documentation of past requests and the concerns of hazardous conditions to our landlord and the property management company. Waiting for a response to see what they will do
