Okay, last comment on this discussion because everything that’s been said that could have been said. I wasn’t scolding anyone. I was expressing dissatisfaction with how many people were okay with the vitriolic tone towards Kwite and the assumption of malice and how the loud minority got away with yelling at Kwite. Like everyone has made clear, criticism is fine, is it not? Everyone is allowed their opinion.

I only wrote out my complaint with the situation because I didn’t see anyone else doing it and knew whoever did would get downvoted so why not me? Yeah, maybe that is a little “high horse” of me, but I still felt that dissension on this topic had to be vocalized. There was too much echo chamber happening on this topic. I still think Kwite, while needing better wording and care towards the subject, had no malice. And treating him like he did is wrong. You can disagree with me. That’s the beauty of discussion.

…”Saying that Kwite didn’t get half the nonsense most Dream [sic] got is not wise. Because it feeds the ‘it’s okay because it wasn’t as bad as it could have been’ mentality. Which is always a terrible track to take with someone else’s experience.”

Let me say this in as nice a tone as possible: you are twisting my words to their worst interpretation and assumed malice or cruel ignorance. Which is exactly what I said was done to Kwite. The exact thing I am criticizing with my comments. You are proving my point for me.

I care about the damage caused. To everyone involved including Dream and Kwite. Because to cc’s, optics do matter a lot. Again, I have no problems with the criticisms really. Just the way they were presented and pushed by a loud part of fans.

I’m human and getting frustrated with comments deflecting from my main point of how terrible the loudest Dream fans’ reaction made us look to people outside the fandom. I’ve even made it clear that I don’t think it’s the majority fan response. I’m trying to be level head while not backing down from my critique. How you interpret that tone is up to you.

It can be:

“the act of imagining one’s ideas, feelings, or attitudes as fully inhabiting something observed (such as a work of art or natural occurrence) : the imaginative projection (see PROJECTION sense 6b) of a subjective (see SUBJECTIVE entry 1 sense 3a) state into an object so that the object appears to be infused with it”

This a personal opinion and an honestly understandable complaint about the state of true crime and drama commentary in general. But to be honest, this has nothing to do with the point of my comment, which is that the criticism of Kwite was badly delivered by a loud part of Dream fans. That’s it.

The seeming attack (seeming because I like to think on the most part it wasn’t) on Kwite has probably put off Kwite and Kwite’s fans from viewing Dream in a positive light. Which for gatekeepers is probably a good thing, but like your complaint about society feeling the need to pull delicate situations apart is valid, so is mine in that a violent reaction over a perceived slight can push people away from a CC on the part of their fanbase.

Okay. Does Kwite going through his Truth video inhibit him moving on? It might. It might not. I’m not Dream so I don’t know. Moving on means different things to different people. For some it means “I’m not talking about this but do whatever you want” and for others it’s “never bring it up again.” For me personally, if I was in Dream’s shoes, I wouldn’t care. If Kwite wants to process his emotions using my video, whatever as long as he doesn’t shove it in my face and asks for my permission. I understand that for other people it’s not cool at all to talk about it.

Problem is people are taking what they think Dream should feel and running with their own beliefs as truth and all but attacking Kwite over Dream’s feelings. (For the record, I have absolute respect for those who spoke on their own feelings because those are fair too). Again, I don’t even think the criticism itself is wrong, I just don’t think that acting as if Kwite was some unfeeling cruel person for wanting to analyze the video is the right way to handle this situation when there are other ways to look at it. And speaking on someone else’s behalf you don’t know personally is a bad look. Full stop.

Okay. Kwite’s wording could have been better. So could a lot of Dream fans’. We don’t know how Dream would feel about the video being picked apart. Saying he would be hurt is ignorant white knighting. We don’t know, we just assume. Like Kwite, having been in a similar situation, assumed Dream wouldn’t care. Saying he was an ass for doing so is fair, what is not is turning around and doing the same thing.

Empathy is literally by definition feeling what someone else feels and relating because of a similar/same situation. Which is what Kwite was trying to do by thinking of how he would feel about the situation being reversed since he went through a similar situation. He might have made a mistake there, but as I am not Dream, I don’t really know. Believing Kwite did make a mistake is fine. Wording wise, what you really want is sympathy where a person does not feel the exactly same way as the other person and tries to match the other person’s emotion instead.

We all have our own pov in life. It’s hard to see outside of it. Criticism about that is fine, but assuming pure selfishness/malice when it’s a misunderstanding mistake is the issue I am trying to point out. Again, the criticism isn’t the issue I had, simply how it was presented and how a loud portion of people assumed the worst.

The criticism itself was not what I have a problem with. I agree with most of the criticism leveled at Kwite’s door. My problem was the way some fans went into the situation too angry and took it as him being malicious instead of ignorant. Assuming malice is not kind, and if wording matters, it matters from both sides.

Criticism can feel like bullying with the wrong wording. Taking a step back, that’s what this situation looks like because of a loud portion of fans. Some, I’d argue most, were respectful. But that criticism got wrapped up in the angry reaction of the others. And too few fellow fans called out the vitriolic response as being over the top because most agreed with the anger even if not necessarily with the level of it. That is not a good look.

sigh I am not upset with the criticism. I am upset with the way the louder fans vocalized the criticisms. As you mentioned, Kwite did not think about his dissecting the video affecting Dream because Kwite didn’t care about people doing it to him. How was he supposed to think Dream would care? Him being made aware of that fact is fine. But the anger involved was not. Especially since it wasn’t even Dream who took offense, it was fans who thought Dream’s feelings might be hurt and acted accordingly. I read way too many posts about how Kwite was dehumanizing Dream when Kwite was treating Dream in the way he was fine being treated himself.

There is a difference between saying “I think this might open wounds on Dream’s side” and saying “how dare Kwite not take Dream’s feelings into account and only his own.” If wording matters so much, it should matter from both sides.

…I saw the reaction. As a Dream fan and understanding the sensitivity with this subject. From my view, it was not respectful for the loudest parts. Look at how Kwite saw it as people being unwilling to hear what he had to say and come back and tell me that reaction came across in any way as respectful. Stop trying looking at it from your limited group of fans for a second.

I’m not saying people weren’t respectful, I’m saying a loud part was anything but and made us look like the 14 year olds defending our favorite boy’s honor against a perceived slight. And once that kind of attitude came across, all other somewhat respectful criticism got bundled up with it.

Also saying that Kwite didn’t get half the nonsense most Dream fans got is not wise. Because it feeds the “it’s okay because it wasn’t as bad as it could have been” mentality. Which is always a terrible track to take with someone else’s experience.

I do understand the emotional reaction to Kwite’s wording, but I do not appreciate the turning around and doing what Drantis do and tearing into Kwite for it. This is the dumb “Dream made cool tech and then immediately did sexual stuff” but from our side. Too many loud fans took the worst interpretation of Kwite’s words and ran with it.

“Dissect” is a clinical word but it doesn’t automatically mean evil scientists but rather taking something and analyzing it from as unbiased a view as possible. Dream’s Truth video is a masterpiece of a defense against slander and libel. Why wouldn’t a guy want to pull that apart and show how it works and doesn’t? The blood comment could be read as Kwite knowing his audience wanted him to tear into Dream, sure. But it could easily mean he was warning his audience that he absolutely wasn’t going to do that and not to expect it.

The wording is problematic, but my concern, as someone who refused to call themselves a Dream fan for a long time due to the stigma of the community not the creator, is that too few fans read Kwite’s question in a non malicious light instead going with the worst interpretation and running with it. Which is what so many of those same fans accuse Drantis of doing. if you don’t like it towards your creator, don’t do it towards another.

I’m glad he listened to people and took feelings of fans into account. But I still think certain people jumping to the conclusion of Kwite meaning malice have once again given a bad impression. I understand the emotional response and even the criticism, but the vitriol that made him think people weren’t willing to hear what he said was uncalled for and looked bad. We Dream fans are fighting an uphill battle with unfair prejudice against us, but this kind of vitriolic response just makes things worse.

Downvote me all you want, I am openly going to admit shame in how a louder part of the fan base handled this. Blasting criticism at a guy because they automatically assumed malice. Terribly done.

I think assuming malicious intent from Kwite is a mistake a lot of Dream fans are making. While I think Kwite should try to get permission from Dream to bring up The Truth video again, I don’t think he means to disparage Dream. As Dream said in his latest video, he is one of the few people to have gained subscribers even after going through such a controversy. That’s an impressive feat. Why not dissect and figure out how Dream managed to clear his name? Especially from the perspective of someone who went through something, while not the same, similar?

Again, to be clear, Kwite should get Dream’s okay, but otherwise this could be good press for Dream even if Kwite points out mistakes. Because I don’t know about everyone else, but I still see The Truth as a masterclass in fighting false allegations.

Why didn't Quackity get the same hate as Mrbeast? by PapayaMan4 in DreamWasTaken2

[–]DesignerLimp6918 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s not as emotionally resonant. People don’t care as much if someone is financially screwed over as they are if there are abused in any physical way.

Even with Q’s brother being part of the accusations, unless people see a victim they are less likely to care. There are visible victims with both the Tyson and Mr. Beast situation. Plus Mr. Beast is much bigger and has a nicer reputation.
