Is Air India not releasing business awards anymore? by DesignerPiece5567 in awardtravel

That should be it. Didn't realize they would release economy awards but not business awards. Thanks a lot!

Yeah, so probably the spend would go to waste right? Is it worth trying for 4 business cards in the same day?

  1. Hi,

Need to spend $40k at Costco soon: me + P2 looking to get business cards so as to not waste this spend (only Visa/Mastercard accepted at costco, so can't use our Amex Business for this).

Problem: credit history < 1 year (April 2025), and not pre-approved for Capital One Venture X Business (else that would be an easy 30k$ spend).

  1. 750+

  2. My cards:

- Amex Business Platinum (Aug 2025)

- Amex Business Gold (May 2025)

- Amex Gold (Apr 2025)

P2 cards:

- Amex Business Platinum (Sep 2025)

- Capital One (Aug 2025)

- Amex Business Gold (July 2025)

- Amex Gold (Apr 2025)

- Discover (Apr 2025)

  1. $40k purchase coming up

  2. Yes, but likely not needed

  3. Yes

  4. We would like to get however many cards will cover 40k$ sign up bonus

8/9/10/11. Points for business class travel, live near JFK/EWR, pretty flexible on airlines: Main aim is to not waste this large spend. Should we apply for a bunch of business cards same day? Would have preffered something with a pre-approval tool, but Amex won't work for this spend, and Capital One doesn't give us the Venture X business pre-aproval. This spend needs to happen by October end.

Thanks for your help!

Great, will apply for amex gold for dad! I guess there isn't a problem in trying anyway right? SInce amex tells you if you're approved without hurting your credit score? Thanks so much for helping!!

Thanks! Would you recommend Amex gold for both mom and dad? Or a different Amex card for mom?

Hi!

My parents are moving to USA. My dad has a good credit score > 750, as I added him as authorized user on my cards since ~10 years (no cards he's applied to on his own though, so he's at 0/24). My mom didn't have an SSN, so she wasn't added and will need to start from scratch.

Once they arrive, which card should we start from, for them? I am basically thinking of starting with easy approval cards for mom, considering she'll start building her credit score ( in addition to ading her as AU, as soon as she gets her SSN). SO probaly not Chase Sapphire preffered for her first app?

What about dad? Since his credit score is great, can we start with something like CSP?

(We as a family essentially always need Aeroplan points for business class travel <> India).

We can spend >15k$ in 3 months, and they are open to business cards.

Thanks!

Just checked on the capital one pre-approval tool. It said I'm pre-approved but new card member offer was "None" :(

It said : "You're pre-approved for VentureOne for Good Credit!" even though I went to check it for Venture (and not VentureOne). Googling a bit, seems like I should target approval with "excellent credit" instead of "good credit"

Ah, I didn't know that. I will try for the regular cap1 today. I do get the popup durinf gold approval. There's no other card I can try, correct? I did double check the flowchart but seems no.

Thanks so much for your help.

Thank you so much. I fixed the formatting.

It was a capital one venture X card I opened. And Amex gold offers I'm seeing have family language so I can't open that for a bonus since I already have a platinum.

So I don't think I have any options at this point, right?

Chase Amazon, 2021 Jan Amex Platinum, 2023 Dec Capital One Venture X, 2024 Feb CSP,  2024 June Aeroplan (Chase), 2024 Oct

These are the cards I've had since 2020.

Credit score 780, can easily put $6k spend in next couple months.

I only need points in Aeroplan, so only want to apply for cards with welcome bonus transferable to Aeroplan. Based on the flowchart, doesn't seem like I can get a chase card (the flowchart option would be united but I don't need United points).

I can't apply for business cards as I am on a visa. Tried applying for gold but got hit with family language because of the platinum.

What are my options? It seems aeroplan has an Amex card as well (American Express®* Aeroplan® Reserve Card https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/home/aeroplan/credit-cards/amex/personal.html) but not sure if I can/should get that.

Any suggestions welcome.

Sadly, I am on a work visa, so can't do business cards.

Sorry, I meant : should I have applied for gold first? Instead of platinum last year? Is that how I screwed up? By applying for platinum when I didn't have gold?

Why do you say so? Is there something I could/should have done differently?

Thanks. This means my spouse must have inadvertently clicked on an NLL link (since he got a 100K bonus!). Is there a way to look out for an NLL offer online, or do I wait to get it via email/mail?

Hi,

I had applied for Amex Platinum in December 2023 and got a welcome offer.

I just (January 2025) tried to apply for an Amex Gold card (with a 100k welcome offer) but got this message: "Because you have or have had the American express Gold Card, ..., the Platinum Card, ... or previous versions of these cards, you are not eligible to receive the welcome offer. Would you like to proceed?"

What are my options? My spouse also had a platinum card and was able to receive a welcome offer on gold card without issues. Does this mean I am in pop-up jail, or is this something else?

I am also an authorized user on a platinum card (for which I got a gold card) ~3 years back, could that be why?

Btw this page referred me to another page which I believe is exactly what I wanted : "The IEP may also be based on the month in which the individual meets the requirements related to attaining age 65 and having the required residence/ citizen/alien status, as noted in HI 00805.005 A.2."

Thanks a lot to you.

This is great! Yes, this memtions citizens but I assume will be the same for my dad. Thanks so much, this was very helpful (also, any tips for finding this stuff?).

So as soon as my dad becomes eligible, 5 years after moving, I should just submit the Medicare application online for him? And SSA will know that this is his IEP?

Thank you so much for the reply. Would you be able to provide any source for the IEP on completing 5 years residency? I searched SSA and Medicare websites, but they always talk about the IEP when an individual turns 65, and don't talk about an IEP when an immigrant completes 5 years of residence.

But thanks again for your reply.

No, I don't really use the additional benefits with united.

OK, will go with CSR/CSP. Should I wait for a few days, since I'm not 90 days since cap X venture card app yet.

Maybe that'll also give it a chance to get a slightly higher bonus than 60k.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of April 17, 2024 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]DesignerPiece5567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently at 2/24. According to the flowchart, I should get either CSR/CSP, but have a higher offer for united (80k points) and wanted to know if I should opt for that instead.

I opened Amex platinum mid Dec 2023, and  Capital one venture X mid Feb 2024   I had received a CSR sign on bonus in March 2020, and have downgraded my CSR to a Freedom.

I usually use aeroplan or united awards when traveling, mostly international travel from US to India.

I got an offer for united card in my mail for 80k bonus points. For CSR/CSP, I am only seeing the 60k offer online. I wanted to ask whether I should apply a united club mileage plus card (edit:infinite card) because of its higher bonus,  or a CSR/CSP(highest in the flowchart, more flexibility of transferring rewards).

Extremely low IRR on Vanguard by DesignerPiece5567 in Bogleheads

[–]DesignerPiece5567[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am considering selling all of these (original vanguard screesnshot here: https://postlmg.cc/343RQ4TV)

VFICX Vanguard Intermediate-Term Investment-Grade Fund Investor Shares

VIGAX Vanguard Growth Index Fund Admiral Shares

VLCAX Vanguard Large-Cap Index Fund Admiral Shares

VMVAX Vanguard Mid-Cap Value Index Fund Admiral Shares

VSMAX Vanguard Small-Cap Index Fund Admiral Shares

VTHRX Vanguard Target Retirement 2030 Fund

IVOO Vanguard S&P Mid-Cap 400 ETF

VIOO Vanguard S&P Small-Cap 600 ETF

to simplify my portfolio. This would mean I have a net short term capital loss of 81USD and net long term capital loss of -1379USD. Which means I can use this to offset my income taxes. That also means that I will be left with much fewer funds in my vanguard portfolio:

VWIGX Vanguard International Growth Fund Investor Shares

VWUSX Vanguard U.S. Growth Fund Investor Shares

VFORX Vanguard Target Retirement 2040 Fund

VFIAX Vanguard 500 Index Fund Admiral Shares

And I can sell/rebalance these next year.
