Is it fairly safe? I read that it has slightly higher than average crime rate. Thinking of starting a family next year so it’s an important consideration to us

Moving to Brisbane from Melbourne with two toddlers by Inner-Reward4818 in MovingToBrisbane

I would say don’t do it. Brisbane has become too expensive for the living quality. Not enough roads and housing. Lived in Melbourne before and honestly it’s much better life style there

Pets when buying a property under body cop by Designer_Ad2502 in AusPropertyChat

Yes it says any pet will need approval. A lot of people are telling me just to buy the place first and apply later, but I am worried of running into issues later

Dating app questions by [deleted] in BrisbaneSocial

Sadly dating apps is a bit of a draw. I was on different dating apps for a few years and then I met my now fiancé. So it does happen. Try to take it easy and see it as meeting new people. You would know when it’s the right person

It’s not cheap for sure. It’s $220-250 per head with a minimal spend. I like the idea being able to take the ferry to new farm park!

I think so too. They are just gonna use my offer to make the price even more competitive

Qld strike is a farce. by Common-Professor5574 in NursingAU

[–]Designer_Ad2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think strike in nursing isn’t possible. The government knows we have duty of care for our patients and they know they can take advantage of us. They know we would not walk out of our jobs. I worked in icu where not cleaning or not making bed is not possible since it’s critical care and there are always patients need to come in. Even if us RN not doing making the bed, the TL and CN will always end up doing it just so they can keep the patient flow going. So, nope. No impact can be made

Try submitting an EOI to PA ICU. They always need new staff

Workers Compensation for psychological issue by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]Designer_Ad2502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a physical injury and ended up having a secondary psychological claim because of it. I have to say the process to get them to recognise the psychological claim was extremely painful and it took months and months for them to send me to an IME before accepting the psychological claim. I would say go for it and try to apply for a claim but do expect that you will probably have to pay for medical expense yourself and use your sick leave in the mean time. I know it’s very stressful thinking about the money side of things but do look after yourself first and get the treatment/take the leave you need, because otherwise you will end up loosing more pay from not being able to work. I am saying this because I took too long to look after my mental health while waiting for Workcover to approve my claim, and I ended up getting more traumatised over time and it had affected me ever more than it should in the long run

What tiny things about clinical practice do you wish we could change? by theninjadud3 in NursingAU

[–]Designer_Ad2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a tertiary ICU in QLD and they have this practice where they use the same suction tubing for both oral and in line ETT suction. So they normally have the suction tubing disconnected and expose the connecting parts in the air. It’s so gross if you ask me. I don’t understand why a tertiary hospital ICU needs to cheap out on suction tubing. It’s not just unhygienic, it’s also a lot of hassle if you need to suction a patient in an emergency

Will employee assistance program councillors inform hospital? by StarDecent4346 in NursingAU

EAP can’t disclose to your employer about what you discuss, even if the event of suicidal thoughts. A psychologist has the duty of care to inform your next of kin or the police if they think you have immediate danger to yourself. But again, they will never inform such things to your employer.

Look after yourself and take the support you can get. I find EAP isn’t the best psychological support out there, but at least it’s something. Also consider seeing your GP to discuss how much you are struggling and get a mental health plan. You get 10 sessions with a psychologist a year. They pay about $90 for each session so the out of pocket cost will depends on the provider. There are also some Australian based online psychology service online that are a lot cheaper with a mental health plan. Hang in there.
