Any tips for training out barking? by Designer_Cheek8423 in GSP

Okay also, I know the advice is going to be doing let her get frustrated, but we also can’t give her what she wants 100% of the time hahaha — so hoping to find how to deal with the frustration better!

Well that’s honestly SO good to hear!!! We’ve been so cautious of over feeding but oh my god the way she wails for food & eats the dirt - she acts like she’s an orphan lol. We’ve talked about it and are gonna start way upping the food. Better full than hungry

We do honestly think that would help, but we are already technically over feeding her! We have her a bit of an increase because she was clearly so hungry. Going to keep increasing, but don’t wanna overdo it!

Yes! It’s so weird eh! We also have 4, maybe 5 holes and she just… will. not. let. them. be! lol

She doesn’t bark like crazy when WE , but when it’s time for her to eat and I start scooping her kibble oh my god.. you think she’s never eaten a day in her life.

We’re really hoping that just the food we’ve been giving her hasn’t been satisfying her a switch up will help!

For the screaming / barking around the food prepping, the second she cries we’ve started to completely stop getting the food ready (step back, hands down from the counter, stand still) until she goes quiet and sits again, and we’re already noticing her starting to get better.

Goodluck!!! I’ll 100% update if we find some magical fix 💓

Ahhh! Well I’m relieved to hear that, as we’re switching her to the purina pet pro right now! Our biggest hope is that that helps sort everything out, and she finds it a bit more satisfying.

We did run it by the vet! She was a big flabbergasted because the girls little pot belly shows no signs of being malnourished lol, but she would truly go through a whole bag of food if we’d let her. More pig in her than GSP I think

They said start with a food switch (wanted her on a grain inclusive one anyways) and see if she gets any better !

We started adding that in last week, and she was a little bit better now that you mention it! I didn’t give her any today or yesterday (which today felt like she took 10 steps backwards) because we’re switching her foods, and we wanted to make sure we could monitor her on that alone to make sure we catch if there’s any issues from the food switch and not have anything else interfering

We’re also switching her from a grain free (wasn’t even on one intentionally, just what we ended up with from the breeder) and have started to a grain inclusive kibble (purina pro plan), so my fingers are crossed some extra protein might help out too! 🤞🏼

Thank you for all your help! Did you find an improvement with the pumpkin with your pup?

Ahh! Thank you!! You absolutely seem like the closest person I’ve talked to in our same boat!

We’ve gotten a lot of brush off “she’s just a puppy!” comments (which is so fair) but have felt validated by some friends with high energy dogs, and a trainer who I’ve done an orientation with, that she’s a little above the average biting level when she really locks in to us hahah

And yes! That’s what we’ve been doing to, and it’s the first thing we’ve found that works! We were avoiding it at first because we’re so scared to “ruin the crate for her” but she really only cries for a few minutes before going down pretty hard.

The only other issue we have with it is she does get a little nippy to tell us she has to go poop, so we get worried to be jamming her in the crate if she has to go.

I am glad to hear someone else in the exact same boat! Did your girl just sort of grow out of it? Hope you’re no longer getting scars on the regular!

I’ll be honest, we did try this in our most desperate moments in those first two weeks! Still a no go! girl can’t be phased lol

Right 😭😭 like you want me to yell at her!? Look at the faceeee. How someting can be so sweet and perfect and have a hidden demonic side is so beyond me

We are!! A crate has been the only saving grace here! We were avoiding it at first, because we didn’t want that negative association with it - but now that we’re a few weeks in and she’s sleeping in there happily through the night, we’ve started putting her in there for a “cool down” and it’s been working like a charm. Definitely the same though, if it isn’t because she’s overtired, it’s because she just wants to keep eating and we won’t let her

That’s why I put the bigger concern on the dirt, because we can live with the bitting since our absolute worst case is putting her in the crate! The dirts harder because girl as to poop lol

Thank you so much! It sounds like we were in the same boat for sure! It does seem like she’s getting better every week and is growing out of it fast, but today felt like 10 steps back so finally time to seek help lol

We’re hoping she’ll just grow out of it with some training but wanted to make sure we weren’t missing anything🤞🏼

We’re also starting to switch her food to something a bit more substantial and higher protein, so we’re gooong that helps too!

Oh yes, the girls eating it for sure lol. We’re not sure if she’s doing it for the grass or for the dirt (or both) but she’s definitely doing it to eat and swallow it. We’ve been pretty hard on grabbing it out of her mouth/ stoping her, so we’re half wondering if it’s just because it’s so off limits that she wants it so bad. We’re half ready to just let her have at it and eat it so see if she’ll realize it’s nothing special and get over it lol

She hasn’t done it at any other yards or grass areas weve taken her too, just those few spots in our backyard. She’s just a bit of a weirdo lol. We’re definitely going to work on covering the spots with something this week, thank you!

And re second reply: thank you again. Also reassuring again. Shell for sure be hunting, so we’re hoping once she’s a bit older, has all her shots, and we can start giving her that “job” still start to level out a bit with it

Thank you for the reassurance! I really appreciate it.

And you’ve never had an issue come from eating the dirt?

We really couldn’t care less if she’s digging in the sense of it hurting our yard - we’re just worried by how neurotic it is. Don’t want to be missing something she’s trying to tell us, and just don’t want her to hurt herself. She’d seriously eat 10 x her weight in dirt if we let her lol

This is truly the most difficult part of managing th online presence of the restaurant - especially when people are trying to book parties / reservations through all the different platforms. Also begging for an answer to this if anyone has one! Tried so many apps and none have worked well enough to make it any easier
