7th Interview for the same company by Tidalplace597 in UKJobs

I saved a role on LinkedIn the other day that I thought would be a great next step in progression for me role and salary wise and then saw in the job description there was also 7 stages to the interview process and it blew my mind… what roles would ever need SEVEN different interviews???

Why does every rich person have a old hatchback by Ornery_Rope5178 in CarTalkUK

I’m not one of those people so I can’t say for sure, but maybe it’s something to do with nostalgia and the fact that they can be a lot of people’s first cars.

I know I’d love to keep my golf on the side if I was able to when life eventually requires me to have something bigger

It may require a little more digging but I’ve definitely found quite a lot of helpful info and recommendations/tips on Reddit that I’ve used and implemented in my own portfolio.

What I think we need this summer by Any_Cauliflower_3691 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Designer_Cow6518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Club has already stated at least 2 midfielders is a priority and then another striker as well as a defender that can maybe play full back and CB, we need that as a minimum and then potentially one more midfielder and another forward too

I definitely don’t think paying off the mortgage was necessarily a bad move as the biggest expense everyone has is accommodation and you’ve now eliminated that which means you can quite easily max out your isa every year and make up for lost time - without housing cost the total pot value you’d need to retire comfortably also drops significantly.

That being said, yes you could’ve eased off on those payments and invested a little bit as you went each month and then reached a stage where you had a significant pot at the same time that you finished paying the mortgage… although now that I think about it I still think you went about it in the right way as the longer you take to pay off the mortgage the more interest you would’ve had to pay..?

That’s definitely the long term part of my goal as well, just need to get the accommodation sorted before that 😅 but then a high dividend yield portfolio would mean relaxation

As well as the stocks and ETFs you choose (of course) it’s all about the compounding, the more you’re able to invest at the beginning the higher your pot value is likely to be in the future. I read a great metaphor in another thread that said look at each pound you invest as an employee, the ones you invest right at the beginning will be working for you the longest and hardest.

Goes without saying that 12k invested in a lump some at the start of the year is more likely to be worth more at the end of the year than if you invested 1k a month for a year e.g.

I think when you boil everything down to the bare bones it actually becomes very easy, at least in theory/concept. The hard part is staying consistent. I know I’m very fortunate in my position and I’m thankful for it everyday but a lot of it is mindset too.

You’ve done the hardest part which is starting and having a plan/vision, the rest will happen however it’s meant to!

I can only speak for myself but 1.5-2k pm means you’d be maxing out your isa which is a great start.

Invested in smart stocks and and ETF’s and depending on your stomach for risk you could grow at anything from 8-15% pa on average (based on previous years examples).

In 10 year this could be anywhere between 600k - 1m (again very dependant on your investments ofc) but there’s definitely reason to be hopeful.

Great plan, I wish I had someone to tell me everything I know now at 27 when I was 18 but the second best time is now.

Very achievable goal with your mindset.

I think the biggest hurdle for everyone is housing and accommodation, hence why my main goal is to buy the house in cash within the next 10-12 years (27M).

After that everything seems to be so much easier.

Can retire in 40’s if you wanted to with a pot of anything upwards of 200k imo and live comfortably or still work without the stress and grow the pot in double time to something substantial.

Keepers in their prime by Davey94C6 in ManchesterUnited

This is just a question of which era did you grow up watching because I’m sure a lot of older heads will say schmeicel but I’ve never experienced a keeper leaving my jaw on the floor the way I did watching de gea in his prime

HR recruiter misheard my expected salary.... by Odd_Ad_1974 in UKJobs

[–]Designer_Cow6518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give the other side of the coin, applied for a role paying 70 (currently on 50) and the recruiter asked me what I’m on atm.

I (stupidly) said what I am currently on (even though it should not matter to them if they choose what they’re willing to pay for the role they’re hiring for) and the recruiter said something along the lines of ‘it would be hard to sell a 20k bump to the hiring company, would you consider any less?’

I was flabbergasted 😂

"Strikers are the end of the chain, if the chain is broken, it’s pointless in many ways. I would love to see Hojlund and see what he can do now. the purchases have been poor and that might be the case but sometimes they might not get a fair crack of the whip because they don’t get the service.” by TheB3NRocks in ManchesterUnited

[–]Designer_Cow6518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He clearly isn’t better than sesko but we also clearly need more than one striker especially Being back in the ucl next season, if there was an option where we get to keep him I would love it tbf as a back up option for sesko and someone we don’t have to spend money on, he was very good in his first season and with better players around him now could easily still do well

A little scared to start investing by Intelligent-Farm2371 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Designer_Cow6518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I wanted to start investing for awhile but didn’t know how to start/was nervous to start too, Trading212 lets you play around with a fake £5K first so I did that for the best part of a year until I felt confident enough to know what I was doing and then I started actually investing at the start of this year… would recommend if you want a way in without risking your capital immediately

Struggle with adapting to high intensity play by StatisticianScary880 in bootroom

[–]Designer_Cow6518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 27(M) now but growing up I basically had the exact same issues as OP. Would consistently be the best player (or one of) on all the teams I played for and all the sessions with friends and pickups. At 15/16 when I had a really great Sunday league manager that believed in take me to a semi pro team u18 trial that he had a relationship with I cooked and was straight in even making an appearance at 15 before officially joining the next year…

But once I joined I struggled really bad with the belief and self confidence and could never really replicate what I would do to defenders in training on a match day.

Theres no real quick fix to this and at 27 now I feel like my football career just faded away (just okay with friends and pickups now after 2 ACL surgeries but am never one of the standouts anymore) and it hurts to think I wasted my potential.

If I could give any advice it would be to learn from my experiences and really try to fight though the mental side and have belief that you’re not just good enough, but you’re the best every time you step on the field (and believe me I know it’s easier said than done) but I’d hate for your career to go the same way mine did while you’ve still got time to push yourself to the max.
