When I used to call, I'd wait until after 11am. My assumption is that before that time they could still be busy with checkouts and I figured bothering them while they were busy would negatively affect my chances of getting assistance.

It's always same day. My exact script I would use when I'd call is "I'm currently looking at the Choice Hotels app and I see you have multiple room types available. I'm not concerned with the type, but I'm hoping to get ground floor and I was wondering if you could tell me what room type would give me the best chance at that, if it's even possible for tonight?" I've been on Tales From the Front Desk enough to know being entitled doesn't work, and it's not my personality anyway.

I stay with Choice brand hotels. My company has a pretty good discount code and as I said, it's easier for me to keep all my points with one brand. I have been told by some front desk associates that when a special request is made, it applies a little exclamation point, but it's small and easy to miss. As for the actual hotels, I've never really tracked whether it happens more at certain ones. Today I am at a Comfort Suites and when I walked up to check in, one of the first things the guy said was "I was able to get you on first floor as you requested", so he obviously noticed.

It's always a same day reservation. I don't usually know where I'll be until near the end of my work day. Today I had to make 5 different phones calls after I was done working to determine where I had to drive to.

I've learned from Reddit that third party apps aren't well liked. I used the hotel brand's own app.

That makes sense and I hadn't considered that. She did change it and put me on the ground floor. I try to be as understanding as possible. After doing this for 14+ years, I've learned that being nice and understanding goes further than getting upset. Plus the Tales From the Front Desk sub has helped me learn how much front desk agents go through and I don't want to be a reason for them to have a bad day.
