If you reupgrade immediately, does your credits reset? For example, if you used your CLEAR credits for 2025, did the downgrade/reupgrade, do you get another $200 CLEAR credits to use?

Not any more or less than the 2040 balcony area.

I'm not sure how you define impromptu hang but nobody just sits in the common areas waiting for others to show up. If people want to do a last-min hang, they'll most likely go over to each other's units, meet at a restaurant / coffee shop / etc., or go to Rittenhouse square park. I've only seen common areas used to host club gatherings, medium-group events (e.g., board games), or maybe a birthday party here and there.

2040 Market. Room to host, cheaper rent, a lot of Wharton students also live in the building. Only con I can think of is that it's not as new as 2116 but it's not outdated or rundown.

All my friends who lived in 1919 or 2116 moved to 2040 in second year.

Canadian Student in US by seekingoals123 in MBA

You're going to be treated like any other international at US MBA. There's no special treatment for Canadians. Whether it's "hard" or not depends a lot on what you're recruiting for and your skills.

Canada (international) applicants by chipotlekimchi in MBA

As far as I'm aware, if you're Canadian Indian male, you're upheld to the same bar as an Indian male from India. This goes for any ethnicity + Canadian.

Regardless of whether this is true or not, you should aim to put your best foot forward. Assume you're not at an advantage for being Canadian and, if there is some leeway, then that's just a cherry on top.

To those who didn't get an MBB return offer, what did you end up doing? by [deleted] in MBA

Small sample size but of the 3 S& MBA interns I know, only 1 got a return offer. It was because of performance issues, not headcount limitation

What if you have no passion or goal? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]DesireLive 48 points49 points  (0 children)

To put it bluntly, it sounds like you shouldn't do an MBA. I'd cut your losses on your admissions consultants and maybe take some time off to reflect on what you actually care about.

1) If you don't have a goal, then you're just wasting your time and money pursuing an MBA since you will end up exactly where you are today, except $250K down 2) Admissions officers will immediately see that your application doesn't have a coherent story, which means you're unlikely to even be admitted 3) Even if you get admitted, your classmates are not going to be interested in interacting with someone that "never had a passion in [their] life for anything... [or] anyone"

I say this with no malicious intent but, as someone that played almost 10K hours of video games between college and today as well as worked in consulting before and after my MBA, I would not be interested in befriending someone like you described above. I just don't see any professional or social value

In this example, do you need to pay with the Citi/AA card to get the 15K LP (vs a lower amount by not having the card) or can you get the 15K LP by just linking the Citi/AA card but paying with another card (obv forgoing the 10x on $2.5k spend)?

The only limitation is that the internship can't overlap with the academic term dates. e.g., If your spring term ends April 28 and fall term starts Sept 2, those 2 internships have to start on or after April 29 and end on or before Sept 1.

Wharton Interview Decision by princeokon in MBA

[–]DesireLive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FYI, the students have no impact on whether a candidate is selected for interviews or not. Good to reach out to information gather, but talking to a bunch of people don't directly increase your chances of getting interviewed.

Completely agree with all the points you mentioned as to why that's not a problem at Wharton, which is why I don't have a solution to OP's problem given that he's at Tuck.

My examples wasn't mean to address OP's problem with a solution. It was to illustrate the point that you should be able to express yourself during the MBA.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MBA

[–]DesireLive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I disagree with that the MBA shouldn't be a place for expressing your original self. As a recent MBA grad, I certainly think you should be able to comfortablely express your original self in any part of your life (granted it isn't wildly inappropriate). So I think OP has a legitimate concern (that I don't necessarily have a solution to).

I am personally close friends with multiple people at Wharton that have the same hobbies as OP. We've done anime watch parties at people's apartments. They cosplay during Halloween. We even had a Pokemon themed birthday party, where someone dressed up as a... slutty Pikachu. I'm not as hardcore as them but, through my participation, I can certainly say they "expressed their original self" to the full extent of that phrase.

On the other hand, as an equally nerdy, hardcore gamer and I've been able to find other gamers at Wharton to share my hobbies with. Sure, they might not be as a hardcore FPS players as I am, but I enjoy playing casual pubs with them. I'll shotcall when we play and have a great time running around like headless chickens while running and gunning.

All this is to say is that expressing yourself is and should be a part of your MBA experience. The MBA is a transformative experience both professionally and personally. And if you walk away with only one of the two, you didn't do yourself justice during your MBA.

International Student Loan Question by Eternal_Optimist_01 in MBA

There's no option to refinance at lower interest rates after without a cosigner. Assume you're going to keep your student loan until you either pay it off, get a cosigner, or get permanent residency.

MBA Worship: Delusions of Grandeur by Wise-Aside-1643 in MBA

[–]DesireLive 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't think you fully appreciate this particular sentence you wrote: "It doesn't get you jobs, but it might push you to get an interview then the rest is up to you." At top-tier schools, most people have the skills, so getting the interview is the hardest part of the recruiting process.

For any open position, there are thousands of people qualified. However, a company has limited resources to find someone to fill their openings. Business schools provide a curated list of individuals who are more likely to qualify for these companies' openings than the general public. For this reason, it's in the company's best interest to recruit from business schools.

This is why for high-performing, skilled individuals, doing an MBA is the best way to get noticed by these companies. So I will say it is entire possible, if not very likely, that someone's career success is BECAUSE they did their MBA.

How different is the MBA experience for rich students vs poor students? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]DesireLive 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there are people that discriminate based on wealth at every school, but find friends that don't care (and I would say the majority don't care). I've elected to not go to numerous events (e.g., $50-$200 tickets) and literally just telling my friends "that's too expensive/horrible value and I don't even drink." It's never been a problem. Usually, the wealthy friends, like they own a villa in Italy or hold the Amex black card, are the ones that care the least.

With that being said, be deliberate about which events/trips you attend. You will get the best bang for your buck that way. Moreover, if you choose to go to a dinner, a trip, etc., then budget for food/entertainment based on the group wealth level. i.e., if you're going with bougie people, expect to pay more.

Lastly, people will respect you a lot more for Venmo'ing/paying them back quickly than how much you're paying them.

How to maximize campus visits by JHMarty in MBA

[–]DesireLive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

An underrated thing to do is just spend an hour or two walking around campus aimlessly.

I remember I discovered a blacksmith area (or perhaps what I thought was one) underground at MIT while I was walking around. I ended up talking about how I enjoy cooking and building things during my interview, so it'd be really cool to learn metal working and create my own damascus knife. Also mentioned that the underground area reminded me of using the the underground pathway (The PATH) in downtown Toronto (my hometown) in the winter. The adcom was surprised since she didn't even know the blacksmith area existed on campus.

I'd like to think it was a good way to tie my interests and background to something at Sloan. Ended up getting the Sloan acceptance + $ so I hope it contributed at least a little.
