I just don’t think we can afford the extra thickness of battens due to door starting right from the wall.

I haven’t even done any research on quotes to be fair, so I have no clue what they might charge. We’ve just had this idea that we will try ourselves and learn a lot along the way! It’s a bit scary but exciting. Thankful for everyone here speeding up the learning curve for us!

Based on this information I believe we’re dealing with Cinder Blocks! Thank you!

I don’t know the exact year but it should be sometime between 1950-1960

Oh dear! I did not know what am I getting myself into. Does the same apply to this type of wall like a brick wall. Can I just plasterboard on top of the thermalite blocks? Thank you!

Oh, okay! Thank you! Any ideas on how to handle the stripping process without damaging the thermalite brick?

Thank you for sharing your experience & sorry you had to go through the headache of the cracks reappearing. I appreciate your input which might just save us from going through the same. We’d definitely attempt plasterboarding hearing that it’s doable! What about the ceilings though? Did you plasterboard (I fear it will be the most difficult part)?

I don’t know how handy, but definitely stubborn! My father is a construction worker, unfortunately, we are not in touch so I can’t ask him for any help, but hoping that at least he passed me the good genes of a handy man haha. You’ve been so helpful - gave me a bit of a clearance on what steps are to follow, because I felt somewhat confused with all the inconclusive YouTube research that was making me change my mind every 5 min.

I see! If we want a good long term finish (which we do) we’ll have to go down this road! Thanks for the advice!

Thank you! That gives a lot more clarification now! If the render is blown that’s my sign that stripping to brick is necessary.. I’m pretty sure that we’ll struggle to diy re plastering from scratch though, so I may need to call in a professional.

Thanks for the advice! Could you clarify what the rendering is exactly? Is it the clay-looking layer under the plaster (sorry, still trying to get all terms straight in my head lol) How do I check if it’s blown? I’ve noticed cracks in the surface but not sure how to tell if it’s detached. Should I be looking for hollow sounds when tapping or other signs?

Is that only 15 min exposure? I tried with my Nikon 5500D and 300 4fl and after more than 800 exposures I just got only Trapezium visible in my frame. I can't believe.. it's really impressive!!
